Cloth Diapering

fabric softener confessions

I admit it, I am having a hard time letting go of my fabric softener.  I have the dryer balls, but I don't want to give up the liquid goodness on the rest of my clothes.  I know I can't use them on the CDs, but would it hurt if I put the softener in the washer with my clothes and towels????

Someone, please tell me what I want to hear......please!!!!

Re: fabric softener confessions

  • I use softener in our clothes for the smell factor, but next time I'm at Whole Foods I'm going to look for some essential oils to put on my wool balls so hopefully we can get the nummy smells that way. :)

  • So can you just put the essential oils ON the wool balls? How much? Are they still CD safe then?

  • Yes, some sellers have scented wool balls that have EOs in them, so I'd be replacing it.  Idk how much (I'm thinking just a few drops, depending on how strong it is), and they should still be CD safe, but I won't add the EO and then do diapers right away.  I'd do a couple loads of clothes/towels to kindof absorb the excess before I used them with my diapers, or put EO on only one wool ball and take that one out when I'm drying diapers.

  • I still use fabric softner and sometimes dryer sheets. I just can't let them go either. Knock on wood, I haven't had any trouble the 3 weeks I've been cloth diapering. Of course I don't us it with the CD just the other clothes.

  • I use fabric softener and dryers sheets all the time (clothes, towels, sheets) and I've never had an issue with my diapers.  We've been cding since ds1 was 4 months so I'm assuming we would have had an issue by now.  I had already switched our regular detergent to free & clear so there was no way I was giving up my softener! :)

  • I use fabric softener on all our clothes/towels etc besides cloth diapers. In our 9 months of cloth diapering we've only had to strip once (because of a yeast infection).

  • If you're really that concerned about it just get some Ecover and use that on all your clothes!

    Yes

Ecover fabric softener is CD safe as long as you don't use it on PUL items, so you can use it on everything else you wash without worrying about residue.
