After multiple failed ART cycles and 5 losses, my husband and I have decided that we are ready for adoption. We met with a few agencies earlier this year, but at that point I was still psychologically attached to having a biological child. A lot has changed since then and we are ready to start learning more. We are in NY and would like to know if anyone has any recommendations on agencies..I am willing to travel anywhere.

 Also, I have been reading a lot about fees, hidden costs, and people losing their adoption money because their fees were non-refundable and the adoption fell through after the birth. Does anyone have any insight on this? After spending $10s of thousands of dollars on fertility treatments our resources are a bit drained and it scares me to think that we could invest money into an adoption only to lose it and not end up with a child. Sorry if I sound naive but I am very new at this.

I'm in Rochester NY so upstate as well I am using Hillside Children Center they are amazing and my worker answers every question within 24 hours I would strongly recommend them. The fee is 16,500 for domestic infant but its broken up into payments and each step is outlined

My agency is regional and has an office in NY. I'll PM you.

Nonrefundable for my agency meant that, if an adoption falls through, the $ stays in an escrow account until you're matched again. At that point it's applied to the next match. You only lose the $ if you walk away from the agency.

I would recommend the FAQs at the top of the board for some other resources.

Just wanted to say good luck, and look for an agency like Dr. L mentioned where your money  stays in escrow if a match fails.  That is one reason we chose to go with an agency rather than private.  We had a failed match and they kept our match fee and it applied to the match with our daughter.  Then we owed the placement fee with her.
