Pregnant after a Loss

Would you call the emergency #?

So after the ob in L&D told me that she thinks I have yeast infection, I bought monistat 3 and used one of the 3 treatments yesterday.  Now, I have more yellow discharge with pink in it, vag is very itchy on the inside, and it burns down there.  I still have 2 more treatments of this left, so don't know if I should continue or stop.  Monistat instructions did say that some itchiness should occur. Should I call the emergency #?

Re: Would you call the emergency #?

  • Did they say that monistat was OK when pg? It sounds like the itching is normal. The burning is probably from irritation. Is the discharge different from what you were having before? I've been seeing a lot of posts lately about yellow/pink d/c in the middle range of pg.

Yes, the ob said that monistat 3 is ok to use while PG, just not the one day treatment.  The discharge is different.  I had dark brown mucusy discharge before I used monistat.  Now the discharge is yellow with some pink in it.

  • Sounds ok to me.  I even had some bleeding when i used it but i wasn't pg. at the time.

make sure you insert the applicator way up there to prevent the burning and make sure you lay down immediately after you insert it.  You'll definitely have discharge b/c the stuff comes back out and it may be mixed w/ the yeast that was in there.  icky i know.

    feel better.

    No.

I had a ton of yellow and green discharge (with the bright red spotting I mentioned before) from Monistat. I think the Monistat must make all the gross discharge come out. It definitely burned down there as well for a bit after the treatments.

Thank you Rachael.  Since I had my cervix check yesterday, I am not too concerned just didn't know if this was normal to experience with this treatment.  After reading your response, what I am going through seems pretty normal.  How long did you have this yucky discharge after finishing monistat treatment?

While I haven't experienced this, it does sound like it's within normal range from what other people have said. Sounds like monistat puts our vags on turbo for its "self-cleaning oven" capabilities. This place really is a great resource. Where else could we have access to hundreds of women to ask about our discharge in any number of situations.

  • When I have used monistat before I had the yucky drainage throughout the day afterwards.  I think it is just the medicine coming back out.

  • *hugs* I hope it gets better!
  • ask your doc if you can take AZO pills. it's in the yeast infection section but it's an herbal remedy that you take preventatively. when i was getting yeast infections regularly i found that taking those pills orally 3 or 4 days a week really fixed the problem. they can be taken daily.
  • I don't know, I've never had a YI but aren't those normal symptoms of one? I hope it stops soon and you can stop worrying!

I knew that itchness and burning were YI symptoms, but thought that monistat would take them away instead of making it worse.  It seems like things get a little worse before they get better.  I am definitely more calm now after talking to everyone on the board today.  I may even spend some time doing some baby room stuff!

All of my YI were pre- pregnancy, but I definitely always note that the symptoms get worse before better. The medicine breaks up the spores and gives your body more yeast to have a reaction too, so it's not at all unexpected. Hang in there! Tomorrow will probably be better!

Thanks for the explanation.  It makes sense.
