Re: clomid follicle size question

  • My RE has me do an ultrasound on CD 12, and he wants to see them at least 18mm.

I know they grow about 1mm a day (someone correct me if I'm wrong), so you should be ready to trigger in another week, which seems late to me, but I'm not a doctor.  Sorry I'm not much help, but wish you the best of luck sweetie!

  • 18mm is what my doctor is looking for as well... hmm now i am wondering about this 1mm a day because this is going to take forever!

The nurse just called me and they got the blood work back and my doctor wants to see me first thing monday morning. I have also been having a lot of bleeding since I started clomid but during my us this morning she didnt see anything of concern. I guess I will see what she says on monday

  • Follicles, from what I'm told, can grow anywhere from 1-3mm a day. on CD11 I had a 17mm and 11mm so they had me wait until CD13 to trigger so the follicles would have a few more days to grow to be 20+mm. .

  • My RE likes 20mm or higher.  I just went through my first cycle and I did not O "on time", i.e. day 14 or so.  Looks like I will O tomorrow, which is CD 18.  My RE was not bothered by this at all!  Apparently, clomid does not necessarily make you O sooner, just helps you produce a better egg.  I admit I thought it would make me O earlier, but I was wrong!

  • I am a very early O'er but everyone is differant.  Yes, PPis correct that they grow 1-3mm a day and by cd12 on my first cycle of clomid I had a 19 and a 27mm!!  Then for the second cycle of clomid on cd11 I had a 14mm, a 16mm and a 19mm.

  • It can be normal. You just might be a slow responder. My RE will trigger once follie(s) are >17 and with Clomid if you haven't started responding by CD20 the cycle is cancelled. Good luck!

  • You can even have different reactions to Clomid on different cycles.  I did a Clomid cycle day 3-7 In April; O'd on CD 14.  Am now on a Clomid cycle CD 5-9, went in for my ultrasound on Wednesday (CD 12), had a 15mm and a 25 mm, bloodwork showed my LH was peaking, they went ahead with an IUI on Thursday.  Normally, I will O on CD 12 very regularly.
