This is totally hypothetical since I'm not pregnant and we haven't even 100% decided to try for #3 yet.
But if we have a girl in the future we would like to name her Wren. The name has a ton of family significance (my grandparents met during WWII in England, my grandmother was a WREN - Women's Royal English Navy) and as I have gotten older I have decided it would be awesome to have a woman in the family with that strong historical name.
One idea is Wren Elizabeth (we love the name Elizabeth and it is a family name on DH's side). The other is to name the baby Lauren and call her Wren. Is that a stretch? Wren as a nn for Lauren?
Thoughts on Wren? Lauren? Wren as a nn for Lauren? Am I crazy?

Re: Is this a stretch? Re the name Wren.
love it!! the family significance makes it extra special. it sounds like it fits with your other children's names too.
fwiw, i know a little boy named wren--his full name is lawrence. it seems like a perfect nickname for lawrence/lauren!
good luck!
While Wren in and of itself is NMS, I am IN LOVE with your reasoning behind it. I would use it 100% if I had the same situation. I wouldn't even bother with Lauren if it were me.
I have a friend who has a daughter named Wren Elizabeth, so the combo sounds good to me.
Agree.
ETA: Wren is sometimes used as a nn for Katherine, but I wouldn't worry about it. It's more obscure than having daughters named Elizabeth and Betty or something like that.

Im on the fence about Wren...i like and dont like it. I see lots of potential teasing with this name.
I love Elizabeth and Lauren.
I think Lauren might be the way to go and call her wren if you want...that way she has an option.
This!
As a Lauren, I hate the idea of the nn Wren. I'm not a fan of Wren in the slightest but I think Wren Elizabeth is your best choice. Love your other kiddos' names.
LOVE IT! I love the idea and the meaning behind it! Wren sounds like a great girl name because its not something you hear everyday and its unique!!! However, if you're hesitent about naming her Wren then I would go with Lauren and us Wren as a nn! That way you have the best of both! I would have never thought about Wren as a nn for Lauren, but I think it totally works. Very clever!
I also know someone who named her daughter Wren Elizabeth, and while its nms, it suits her.
I love the family connection to the name. And for that reason alone, I would use the name Wren.
I personally hate when people pick out names strictly for a nn. I think if you want to call your potential daughter Wren, then you should name her Wren. I think naming her Lauren and calling her Wren is a stretch (and sorry, but I think it is silly-I mean I get how you are getting the nn Wren from Lauren, but ew).

I think it would work for you, especially with the personal significance. It's NMS though.
If you did do "Wren", I would pair it with something really feminine for a MN...like "Rosemarie" or something.

I don't think NN have to "go" with the name. I also don't think they have to be shorter. Just something fun to call your LO.
I don't think it's stretch at all. I love Wren all by itself also.

this!
Wren is my favorite name if we have another girl, and I am super bummed that DH doesn't like it.
I might still fight for it if it becomes necessary.
Wren as a nn for Lauren is maybe a little bit of a stretch, but not a bad one.
Personally, though, I would just go w/ Wren Elizabeth. It's lovely.

I'm a Lauren, and my nn has been Ren since I was in hs. When I was in college I roomed with another Lauren and went by Ren so frequently that's how I started showing up on rosters.
Personally, I LOVE the name Wren, and would not even bother with Lauren. But know if you wanted to, the nn is there!
Good choice!
