Emergency: Where can I get a child's ax in the next 4 hours?

DD has been in theater camp all summer.  Today she is playing Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.  (AW--she's the youngest one in the group and she won the lead role!)

Director emailed last night--the plastic ax for the Tin Man is missing, she thinks she inadvertantly threw it in  garbage bag instead of the plastic bag that was holding the rest of the costume.  Of course, DD told director I would be able to get them a new ax, no problem.

So with Halloween costumes out, there has to be a little plastic ax out there somewhere, right?  Has anyone seen one?

  • The firefighter sets usually have one. I've seen them in the dress up section at our local toystores year round.
  • Try an actual Halloween Costume store....the ones that are popping up just for the season. Or you could probably make one if you're even a tad crafty.

I made one last night but it looks pretty bad.  I used a really thick painting sponge, cut it into a wedge and covered it in tin foil.  I attached it to a paint stirring stick that I had painted brown.  It will work in a pinch but it's not really something I would present to the director and be proud of how it turned out.

  • Take your sponge ax head, ditch the foil. attach it to a dowel from home depot and spray paint it all silver.
