Prometrium question

Hey everyone,

At what point did your doctor have you stop taking the prometrium.   I was released from my RE earlier this week and they told me to stop taking it at 8 weeks, but I met with my OB who said I can continue to 9-10 weeks if I want.  Just wondering what everyone else did.  

Also, I have very few pregnancy symptoms so far- could the Prometrium be helping with that or is it just a coincidence?

I'm on Crinone and had this question earlier this week! My doctor was telling me to stop at 10 weeks. I called because I was thinking this was too early. I'll be on it for an extra week, till 11 weeks. I think the nurse said it was more for my peace of mind because I guess the placenta should have taken over at this point.

My RE said I could stop taking it at 7 and my OB said I could stop taking it at 9.  I took it until 9.  The RE just said that once the baby is "established" in there and has a heartbeat that the small amount of progesterone in the prometrium is nothing compared to what your body is making at that point.  That's why you can just stop it cold turkey as well.

I actually asked my RE this morning... I just refilled my Rx, and that should get me to almost 12 weeks. I wasn't sure if he wanted me to go ahead and fill the last refill or not. He said that 10 weeks is generally when your need goes down, and 12 weeks is just a precaution. My personal opinion is to go longer rather than stopping too soon. Just in case.

One of my REs told me that I could stop taking it once they saw a strong heartbeat on u/s. Sure enough, after a 6 week u/s looked good, they told me I could stop. With my current pregnancy, the RE had me continue taking it until 8 weeks. I guess it can vary, but with both of those pregnancies I made it out of the first trimester without any complications.

I just asked my RE yesterday and he said one more week ... so I'm assuming 10.5 weeks is when he'll take me off or have me go through to 11.  That's when I get to stop PIO too! I'm practically counting down the days as I'm tired of my butt hurting! hahaha  But it scares me at the same time.

I took my Prometrium until I was about 11 weeks.

I think your lack of pregnancy symptoms is just coincidence (but nothing to worry about...lots of women have very healthy pregnancies and no or little pregnancy symptoms)  I had morning sickness from the beginning and it lasted until 24 weeks.

so crazy this question came up!  I am 6 weeks along and was informed my progesterone level was at 10.1 so they put me on prometrium today.  I just took my first pill.  The nurse said I would be on the pills until my 12 week.  I think they just want through the first trimester.  I am terrified my symptoms are going to get worse but if it helps the pregnancy then bottoms up!
