Book recommendation

I'm listening to Finding Miracles right now (https://www.amazon.com/Finding-Miracles-Julia-Alvarez/dp/0375827609), and loving it.  It seems like the author has first-hand knowledge of what it might feel like to grow up as an internationally adopted child in rural US.  It's written from the girl's point of view, and I find many of the things she discusses ring true.

After reading about the author, it seems that she does have first hand knowledge about the other theme in the book, dictatorships and oppression in Latin America and the plight of Latin American refugees in the US.

I'm enjoying the book, and thought some of you might, too.
