Trying to Get Pregnant

Triphasic chart

Anyone get this pattern regularly? I didn't last month but I seem to be getting one this month. I heard it's a good sign, which I need, because I have exactly 0 symptoms right now and it's bumming me out.

Re: Triphasic chart

  • Unfortunately, like so many other things, it could be something, or it could be nothing.  You'll just have to wait and see.
Hopefully it means something for you this cycle, though!  GL!

  • I read in TCOYF this morning that triphasic charts often, though not always, indicate pregnancy. Fingers crossed for you.

  • I don't know much about triphasic charts but your chart is looking good! When are you planning to test?
  • I used an OPK this morning and it was neg. It wasn't really FMU though, as I peed at 3 am and then tested at 6. But I'm not going to test again until 14dpo. Also, this is only my second month charting, so I know very little about my patterns.

  • I hope it means good news for you!

I had a triphasic chart when I got pregnant with my DS.

  • It could mean pregnancy. Too bad there are no sure signs except a test :/ GL to you!!

  • Your chart is looking really good--I'd be excited about it, anyway. Best of luck!

Now, would some kind soul explain a triphasic chart, please?

    Here you go!

Well the link didn't work. :(

Here's what FF says, in a nutshell.

A triphasic chart shows three levels of temperatures: pre-ovulation, post-ovulation, and then a second rise around 7-10 days after ovulation. Some women with charts that show this pattern turn out to be pregnant. But many do not. Likewise, your chart does not need to show this kind of pattern for you to be pregnant. Whether or not you are pregnant, progesterone, the hormone responsible for raising your temperature after ovulation, generally peaks in the middle of your luteal phase and this can cause this kind of pattern whether or not you are pregnant.

Basically, you have another level of higher temperatures about halfway through your LP.  Does that make sense?

  • Dr google tells me it is 3 levels of temps. Something to do with a surge of progesterone. Maybe the educated lasses who've read TCOYF can shed more light. I just hit the inter webs after my temps went up instead of down.

  • I don't think your charts really look triphasic.  If they did, it would be a hopeful sign however.

FF did a statistical study on charts with triphasic phases.  The third level of temps must start at least 7 days after O or it doesn't really count.  So if it jumps at 3dpo for instance, it's not really triphasic.

    Results:
Frequency of a Triphasic Pattern for pregnancy charts:12.46%Frequency of a Triphasic Pattern for non-pregnant charts:4.47%Average Days Past Ovulation (DPO) when this pattern occurs:9 DPO

    Discussion:
The results show that the triphasic pattern indeed occurs more frequently on pregnancy charts. Especially interesting are the following results:The magnitude of the difference is quite significant. This pattern is 179% more frequent on pregnancy charts.
The moment in the cycle at which this pattern is the most likely to occur is nine days past ovulation. This is within the window of the most likely time for implantation. (Wilcox, A. J., D. D. Baird, et al.1999).Although the pattern occurs with greater frequency on pregnancy charts, most pregnancy charts do not show this pattern. While it is a good sign when you are hoping for pregnancy, you do not need this pattern to be pregnant.Seeing this pattern does not guarantee or confirm pregnancy. While the probability of pregnancy is increased significantly when you see this pattern, it also occurs on non-pregnant charts and so cannot confirm pregnancy before a pregnancy test can be reliably taken

  • I am going to be the Negative Nellie - This is the one issue that I hate TCOYF for. They state in the book that triphasic charts are "virtually always" caused by pregnancy.

Bulls*it. I have had many of them.

However, OP, your chart does look beautiful! And here's to hoping that it is a sign for you!
