This is a follow up from my formula supp question...
Is there a general amount of formula a baby will eat in a sitting?
Or a resource that will give amounts for different ages? My gal is 4 weeks tomorrow
I see a lot of posts about similac and emfamil, are these the favored two brands?
Is this mostly baby preference?
Maybe there is an FAQ or something that can answer all these formula questions??
Thanks!
Re: Formula amounts?
My LO eats a max of 4 oz per feeding right now, but every baby is different. It's kind of trial and error at first to figure out how much your LO will eat and then after that you will get cues from your LO when they are ready to up their intake.
Similac and Enfamil do a lot of targeted marketing to expecting moms so I think they are just well known.
We have been using Similac Sensitive because we had samples, but just switched to Target's Up and Up brand because they had one for half the price that had the exact same ingredients that the Similac had in it. I'm not sure if LO likes it though so we may switch back to Similac.

Our LO is 6 weeks old today. She eats a max of 4oz per feeding....and this is if she goes 3-4 hours between feedings. Sometimes she wants fed again only after 1.5 hours....in that case we only give her 2-3 oz. How often she wants to be fed differs each day. She tends to want fed more often in the morning and as the day/evening goes on the feedings are 3-4 hours apart. Her longest stretch is at night and is around 5.5 hours. Each day seems to be different, but I would say that on average she's eating around 27 oz per day.
We started feeding Similac in the hospital because that's what they gave us. But we had Enfamil samples at home so we switched to that when we got home. After being on Enfamil for a couple weeks we switched over to generic....Sam's Club Members Mark. Our pediatrician said generic is the same as the name brands and we've had no issues with the generic....and you save a TON of money!
Here we have a health hotline and the nurse gave me this chart :
Newborn to 2 months : 2 to 4 ounces per feeding / 6 to 8 times per 24 hours
2 to 3 months : 5 to 7 ounces per feeding / 5 to 7 times per 24 hours
4 to 7 months : 6 to 8 ounces per feeding / 4 to 6 times per 24 hours
8 to 12 months : 6 to 8 ounces per feeding / 3 to 4 times per 24 hours
I hope this was helpful ... it was for me :-)
