Teeth?

So a few of you already know my story of last night and no sleep and Hayley not eating till I got her home from daycare. Well she was super fussy throwing herself backwards and crying. I assumed it was her reflux andgave her Zantac. That was a no go. I fnally got her calmed down and asleep. Fast forward 4 hours-dumb H decides she needs her diaper changed while sleeping and now she's up at 1030 and he's off to work. GRRR. So I get her a bottle and as soon as she goes to suck on it she cries. BINGO it hits me maybe it's teeth. She wouldn't let me feel inside so I gave her the binky and rocked her and she's out again...do you think she's not taking the bottle because of a tooth coming in?

My husband would not live long enough to go to work. Never wake a sleeping baby!!!

Anyways, DD doesn't have teeth yet so I don't know from experience, but I've read that some LOs will lose their appetite when teething. Next time she's awake stick your finger in there and feel around. See if it feels swollen or if there might be a tooth breaking through.

  • Emalyn's tooth is just poking though and she wasn't to crazy about her bottles or spoons in her mouth today either.  It took my half the day to realize why she wasn't finishing any of her bottles and the only reason I realized it was because I stuck my finger in her mouth to see if the tooth was through any more and she screamed bloody murder.  Maybe your little girl is getting a tooth!!  Either way, I hope she feels better soon!

  • That could be it. I hope you both get some sleep soon. Good luck!

  • Could also be an ear infection - keep an eye if she's shaking her head, pulling her ears (I think that could also be teeth)...maybe if you feel comfortable give a little tylenol or motrin.
  • DS has had 3 ear infections now, and he loses his appetite, thrashes around in his sleep crying uncontrollably, and just does not act like himself, but he does not tug on his ears, or pay any extra attention to his ears.  If it continues or you don't feel the teeth, I would have ears checked by the doctor.    He still has no teeth so I am not sure how he will be when those come in.

  • Ok thanks! I felt around this morning which wasn't very long cause she fought me and I didn't feel anything...she only ate 4 ounces this morning which is half of what she usually takes. I'll hafta see how she is when u get her from daycare unless the call me to get her.

I could be wrong about the ear pulling in the above post for an ear infection - JT has never had an ear infection but I remember my stepmom asking me that....sorry!!
  • DS never had any trouble eating while teething, but every baby is different.  When we thought he might have had an ear infection, the pedi asked if he was having any trouble sucking on his bottle.  So, that might be something you want to look into if he has any other signs of an ear infection.

No you are not wrong at all - it was just not one of the symptoms ds had - doctor asked me about it, said some babies do it and some dont. If he had been tugging on the ears it would have helped, I waited to see the dr becuase he was not doing it.
