2nd Trimester

anyone been through a gas leak while preg?

turns out the apartment attached to mine has been full of gas for days (the lady that lives there was away) I smelt it last night but DH did not so I thought I was just crazy well this am I got sick and thought I had the flu, I took tylonol and plowed through the day. then tonight it turns out the fire dept find the gas. so I was inhaling it for days! they think it happened on tuesday am. so I just called my dr. and they said if I get sick tonight to go to the ER but otherwise it should be ok. I'm so worried bc I haven't really felt the baby move today he's usually bouncing all over.

  • I had a similar situation when I tried to grill and I left the propane on and our door open so gas was inside our living room.  I called my GP who said it would be fine and DH and I went out for dinner to give the house a chance to air out.

  • We just had one last weekend. We called the gas company, they couldn't find anything and assured us it was safe so we stayed home that night (and DH refused to sleep with the windows open). It still smelled the next morning so we called again and then they found that our stove was leaking. It gave me a headache for 4 days, but apparently natural isn't actually toxic. It's dangerous because it can replace the oxygen and cause asphyxiation. I'm seeing my doc on Monday so I'll double check then but from all I've found out, it shouldn't harm the baby.
  • thanks, I called my OB and they said I should be ok unless I feel sick again, well in the am I felt sick and threw up so they sent me to the hospital. I'm sure it was more nerves than anything. they did an ultrasound and heart monitor and checked my pulse-ox levels. all were good and I got to see DS kicking around :) they said he flipped over so he's kicking my back and that's why I wasn't feeling him as much as before. I felt so much better after I left the hospital, still scared of the unknown but at least it calmed me down.
  • I have not had a gas leak while pregnant but I did have a gas leak in my home while my youngest was 2 weeks old and had just been released from the hospital for RSV. He and my 19 month old are JUST FINE. It was very scary, but hopefully you have nothing to worry about :) When I called poison control I asked how would I know if they received an unhealthy amount and poison control said honestly, if they breathed too much, you would know because something bad would have already happened. So you little one kicking around is definitely a good sign that he's probably just fine :)
