VBAC

a little disappointed with appt

met with the OB for the first time today.  overall i guess the visit was fine, but i'm a little annoyed at some of their "policies".  they require CFM and will not let me go past 41 weeks.  she also gave a lot of credence to the predictability nomogram (granted my score was high, but still).  she spoke a lot about uterine rupture risk and how it's not an issue at all with a RCS.  she seems very pro-VBAC on paper, even gave a big talk on it in February, but i definitely did not leave with that impression.  i hope my visits with the other providers put me more at ease.  they are the only practice in my area that does vbac.

Re: a little disappointed with appt

  • I'm sorry your appointment didn't go as well as you would have liked, I have been there and walked out of my OB's office feeling the same way. The one thing I will disagree with is what your OB said about uterine rupture not being an issue with a RCS, there is always a chance for uterine rupture in every pregnancy. Whether or not you have had a previous c-section, uterine rupture can happen. Yes the chance is a tiny bit higher if you have a previous scar but even an unscarred uterus can rupture, I know this for a fact because I know someone who had it happen. So the fact that your OB says it's not an issue even with a RCS would make me worry about her in general....I hope your other visits with other providers goes better and maybe you could think about switching to one of them if someone else can be more real with the facts! Good luck and keep us posted on how your appointments go!

  • CFM and 41 weeks are pretty standard VBAC fare.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • I love the comment about uterine rupture.  The only person I know who has had one spontaneously had one at 8 months pregnant and was not at all in labor.

But like a pp said, the other stuff like 41 weeks is standard from what I have seen.

  • I hope it all works out for you and the next appointment is better.
