Sound Machines...

I have been thinking of getting one for DS. Sitting in the bathroom with the water running at 1030pm has really lost its charm. Do you have one and do you like it?

I looked on Amazon and there is a Grac.o one for $50 and a first years one for $25. Both have the same features it seems, so any recs?

Re: Sound Machines...

  • We use a fan on high, sitting on a tall dresser...accomplishes noise and air movement ;)
  • Loading the player...
  • We love this - it's ugly, but it works well :)
  • We have this one (homemedics soundspa lullabye)  and LOVE it.   We keep it on the rain sound, but like the light projection feature, too.    You can find it at Target, too.

We have this one, and have gifted this one in the past 3 years. It's awesome!

We have 3 of those -- one for each of our bedrooms.  We're all addicted.

I also downloaded a white noise app onto my iphone and ipad and use that when we travel.  It works well but you need to keep your iphone/ipad plugged in overnight or else the white noise will drain the battery and you'll wake up to complete silence (that's when I knew I was completely addicted to white noise).

  • We have a Graco one, but I think it was closer to $35 or $40.  It's at Target and Amazon I think.  My DS is nearly 21 months and we still use it.  For the sound machine part and the gentle nightlight.  I'll be screwed if it ever quits working!

We have this, too. Actually, we have two of them. The first we bought for DS1 (and it still works great), and the second we bought for DS2. We have a big problem with the layout of our house in that sound travels to the bedrooms quite loudly. These have been a necessity! We also use the rain setting, but the light projection is a great bonus. Love them!!

  • I have the graco one and bought it because I can hook an MP3 player up to later.

Yes, this is the one we have too.  You can plug in your MP3 to it along with a lot of those regular sound machine options.

  • Both our LO's have these Teddy bears that hook to the side of their cribs and we play those when they go down at night. They play ocean sounds, womb noises and a heartbeat. We've used the womb noise from day one for both.

They also have a humidifier in their room, which has a soft hum to it when it is on.

  • We have the Homedics Soundspa too and V loves it. He has always been partial to the ocean setting. As a bonus, DH and I actually find it soothing at night when the sound comes through on the monitor :-)

  • Thanks for all the input ladies. It sounds like many of you swear by the homedics soundspa. I'll have to try it out!

The Graco sounds nice too because you can hook an MP3 up to it too!

The soundspa one is great.  I would definitely get it.  And when they get a little older, I'd recommend the Sleep Sheep.  We got this when DS would flip out when the timer was done on the Sound Spa.  He'd want more music and I'd have to go in to turn it on.  He will turn the Sleep Sheep back on again in the middle of the night if he wakes up.  He loves it!  (And it runs on batteries so you can take it anywhere.)
