OPK Question

Hi, new here and have a question regarding OPKs. I've been taking OPKs for almost 2 weeks this cycle (beginning on CD12, 33 day cycles average) and have had a faint line on each OPK except for CD17, which had NO line what so ever. The lines HAVE been getting slowly darker, but I'm at CD21 and still no positive. It's maybe a shade or so off. Some women have told me to check again a few hours after the first one, but when I do there is no line what so ever (I'm guessing because I chug water like it's going out of style, therefore pee a lot)

I know that I could just have a short luteal phase, but should I let my doc know that there is some LH 2 weeks before I ovulate? Sorry if this is a silly, over analyzing question, I just want to make sure all of my bases are covered after 14 months of TTC, a laparoscopy and no luck yet!

Oh, and I have been checking my CM, and so far it's been pretty much creamy, no major difference so far. Temps have also been consistent, .2 degrees off (96.8-97.0 consistently for the last 2 weeks) except this morning it jump up to a whole 97.3, so no big change.

Re: OPK Question

  • I would suggest asking to see an RE since you've been trying for so long and have them monitor your cycles so you know exactly when you're ovulating.  OPK's can be tricky and your water chugging can definitely dilute the urine.  If you don't want to see an RE, check out fertilityfriend.com, which can really help determine when you O.  Good Luck!

  • Thanks! I actually just started using FF this cycle after using fertilityties since November. I have to wait until my husband gets his orders to see a new doc, then get referred to a RE (we have tricare).

  • I know it can be a pain to have to wait for a referreal to the RE, it feels like cycles are just slipping by and you are wasting valuable time.  Hang in there, you'll likely get a lot of good info from FF.  Also, if you haven't already lurked on TTGP, you might find there are lots of answers to your questions there as well.  Good Luck!

  • I found it best to test in the morning when I get up, not diluted with water. Usually the darker the line is means ovulation but, OPKs are tricky and can be a pain. Good Luck!
