Ok. So I work at a bank. I am the head teller and about a month ago the 'big people' asked me to fill in for a manager at a different branch. Needless to say I was thrilled that they asked me to fill in for her because it will help when a management position comes open.
Fast forward to 2 weeks ago when I was asked to work at this other branch again. I was told that the manager had a networking event to go to and would be gone until 6 pm. (they close at 7) Well the said manager calls at 3:30 and tells the other girl I am working with that she is dog tired and is going home to take a nap before coming in and she will come in at 6. Well that doesn't sit well with me so I make a few calls and she is magically here in about 30 mins after her first phone call.
Today I get a call from the 'big boss' asking me to come in and cover for the girl that has the FLU at the same place. I worked yesterday open to close and today they can't tell me when I will get to leave. It is quite possible that I will be here from 8a-7p.
I am not a happy camper and don't know what I need to say to the people that matter that I feel very taken advantage of and don't appreciate it.
Re: Work Vent. WWYD?(long)
I don't understand why you called the manager back the first day? You knew she wouldn't be there until 6. The girl called and said she would be in at 6. It wasn't like she originally said she would be there at 3:30 and then called to say she wouldn't be in until 6.
ARe you getting any different compensation for the added duties? As far as working times, these details should have been discussed beforehand. What time do you normally work?
I would just put in the long hours for now because it will (hopefully) look good in your boss' eyes and you know you won't want to be doing shifts like that after the baby is here, so now is the time to really shine.
I know when I have to work some long days or come in on weekends for events, I usually get to take a 1/2 day at some point soon afterwards as unofficial comp time, especially since I'm salary, not hourly. Is that an option for you?
I called back the first time even though I knew that I would be working til 6 because she was going home to take a nap.
She is notorious for doing things like this and I shouldn't have to work longer than normal just because she wants to take a nap. I would like to take one too!
I either work 7:45-4 or 10 - 6
Well, I don't really think this is something you should have confronted her with. Are you her manager?
And, you are obviously working more hours than your normally do if you work 8-7 today. Are you hourly? I take it you don't want the extra money? If not, the next time you need to tell them your time restrictions. But, if 8-7 is the usual hours of a branch manager, telling them you don't want to work that time won't help you when a management position becomes available.
No I am not her manager but me being at her branch was causing someone else to work open to close at the branch I am usually working. I didn't confront her myself I called my manager and she called their boss.
8-7 aren't the hours that we usually work. I was scheduled at my branch from 8-4. The branch that where I am filling in has hours from 10 -7. I don't mind the extra money but I did already have plans today.
