Pain on right side from sleeping on left

I think I've finally trained myself to sleep most of the night on my left side. But now my right oblique feels sore often and I think it's related to the fact that while sleeping on the left side, the left oblique is totally stretched out flat, while the right oblique gets pinched in (hip to rib pushed together more.) Am I making any sense?

The pregnancy pillows I've seen don't seem to offer any solution to providing support for the dip in my left side so as to straighten out the right side. So far all I've seen offer belly, leg, head, and neck support...nothing under the oblique.

I guess I could just try putting a pillow under my left oblique...but was considering purchasing a total body pregnancy pillow. Anyone know of something that can do all that?

  • Id say get a cheap body pillow and that might help. I have right hip problems and just using that gave enough support also lay like an upside down 4 use your left leg as the straight one and your right at a 90 degree angle (if that makes sense) that might help.

  • I highly suggest a chiropractor...and you can sleep on your right side.  Left is ideal, but right is not bad.   I did half and half my whole pregnancy with Lily and she turned out perfect.

I agree with this!  I couldn't sleep on just one hip, especially when I got into the 3rd trimester.  I would have to switch about every hour because the hip would be killing me.  My DD turned out just fine.

  • All I can say is that when I mentioned to my OB that sleeping on my left side all night long is getting annoying she said "And where did you hear that you have to do that?" I told her from the internet... She rolled her eyes and said "I wish they'd get that junk off of there".  She told me to sleep however I was comfortable, but obviously not flat on my back.  She said it was okay to sleep on the right or left side and if I needed to I could put a pillow under my right hip if I slept on my back.
