NTR: e-reader books

Wondering if I could save anything by getting a type of e-reader rather than buying books from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.  What is the average cost to download a book to an e-reader?

TIA!

Re: NTR: e-reader books

  • I have the plain nook and love it.  I didn't want a color one and have no desire to have it read books to my kids nor I am going to let them play with an expensive gadget.  I really like that it is not back lit,  that I can borrow from the library for free (some libraries are not online with the kindle.  you need to check with them first) and exchange lend me books with my friends.  The cost varies.  New released hard covers are about $13 and older books are anywhere from $1-7.  I only got it in March, but I think I have saved enough already on books that it has paid for itself.

I didn't realize you can share with friends!  You've now made my case to DH stronger!  haha.  Thanks for your input!!

  • I have a Kindle and LOVE it!  I can't imagine going back to traditional books.  I worried I wouldn't like the e-ink but it is awesome and just like reading normal book.  Book prices I have paid are anywhere from free - $10.00.

  • I have a Kindle.  It was $139 last Christmas, and I usually download books for free (Amazon does offer some free ebooks) or up to $10.  Prices on Amazon change from time to time, so I just prefer not to spend more than $10 on an ebook.  Ebook prices are less than the physical book.

My local library doesn't support ebooks for the Kindle, so had I known that, I may have bought a different e-reader.

I do have to say that I love the portability of it!  I would also recommend getting a cover with a light on it if your e-reader doesn't have a backlight for the screen.  (Not sure if others do or don't, but the Kindle doesn't.)

  • I LOVE my nook color.  My library has an e-reader system so I can get books for free through that.  Also Barnes and Noble has hundreds of thousands of books you can get for free.  I love searching through the free books.  I've found some great ones that I would never have known about.  I found 4 books by Heather Huffman that I really enjoyed.  She said that she offers her books for free because she would rather have people donate to her favorite charity.  Her books are great!  My daughter does use it sometimes and she loves playing a puzzle game that we found on it.  I've never used the lending feature but you can share books with other people that you know who have Nooks.  I also love getting magazines with it.  I keeps my house a little less cluttered without having stacks of magazines everywhere.  I think Parents Magazine if around 90 cents a month.
