Success after IF

RE testing second time around

When we were trying with DD, we tried multiple doses of clomid with an OBGYN.  We were eventually referred to an RE who we had a consult with, but we somehow got pregnant that last cycle with the OBGYN.  We only had a consult and did the bloodwork.  We didnt' make it to the HSG or the sperm testing.

Well we started trying again with the OBGYN, and I've O'd 2x with no success.  He wants me to go with the RE again.  So my question is, where would we start with the RE? Do we need to do an HSG and the bloodwork and the sperm testing, or is that not an issue since we've already had DD?

  • These are questions you will discuss with the RE on your first visit.  I'm guessing he will probably send you for some labs and U/S at least.  GL!

  • My guess is that the RE will want to do bloodwork, a HSG, and a SA, just so he/she can offer you the best possible treatment plan. I don't think any RE worth your time and money would recommend treatments without a full knowledge of any possible issues.
Brought to you by IVF, ICSI, limited fert, and oocyte cryopreservation.
    Because we're fancy like that.

This is exactly what I was going to say. I would be wary of any RE that didn't want to do this testing. Good luck!

I agree completely.  Keep in mind - a lot can change in your body in just a few months or years.  My E2/FSH hormone levels completely changed between DD1 and DD2 so new test results were needed for a proper dx / approach.  Same with my husband's SA.

  • Since Femara worked for us on the first try for #1, my RE was willing to let us do 3 cycles of Femara without repeating bloodwork or doing further testing (and I have insurance coverage for a lot of it, so I think it is his pretty honest opinion).  I wouldn't do something more expensive than Femara without repeating testing.

  • They redid all out testing, nothing much was different, but what if something was? I'd get the testing done (and 2nd time around we were OOP).
