covering visible screws on crib?

We're looking at a crib that I really like, but DH can't get past the fact that you can see the metal screws on the head/footboard(?).  I'm wondering if there's an easy way to conceal these after the crib is put together. TIA!

Re: covering visible screws on crib?

  • It really bugged me when DH was putting ours together that there was no "plugs" for the holes. I dont even notice it now tho!

  • We just put our crib together last weekend and I realized that I hadn't even noticed the holes when we picked the crib out originally.  I don't know about covering them but but I do think that when everything is all set up you probably won't even notice them.

  • I read somewhere that they are left open so the screws can be tightened. The article suggested doing so monthly to ensure safety.
  • If you buy a darker crib they are really difficult to see. Also, higher quality furniture tends to do a better job of placing the screws so they aren't as visible or there aren't as many. If you choose a white crib you can always paint them with some acrylic paint, which would conceal them a bit.

I think the reason there are no caps for screws is because they would become a choking hazard if they fell or were pulled off.

  • I ended up spending so much money on DD's crib to avoid this.  We picked a white one so they stood out to me in every one we saw.

This is exactly why a lot of the bolt-hole plugs were removed. They'd have to be removable so you can periodically tighten the bolts, so they're a choking hazard.

Never underestimate the ingenuity of a bored child stuck in a crib.

  • Depending on the color of your crib you can paint them.  I used white nail polish on mine and now you can't see them at all.  You can still tighten them, they are just painted a bit!

That didn't even occur to me!  The crib is white, so I think we could just dab some paint in there and they wouldn't be noticeable.  Thanks!

  • DD's crib has been together for probably 15 months now (her bday was yesterday) and we never even noticed the holes.  I wouldn't worry about it!
