  • I think I remember you too...I think you always made me laugh..I've got major baby brain though.. I got married in 2005 in a cherry orchard here in upstate NY.. ball jar?votives?in the cherry trees and a big strawberry shortcake for our wedding cake.. sound familiar???
  • I have some questions, and would LOVE some help! I didnt get alot of big stuff at my shower so what big things would you say you need before baby gets here? I did get a pack n play, and we bought our travel system.

Also how many would you recommend of:

Bibs, crib sheets, pack n play sheets, nipples for bottles (im gonna try BF, but also want to pump) burp cloths, towels, wash cloths, onsies, and sleepers.

Thank you for any help you can give me!

  • I have to go feed DD, but I will check back in a little bit, and I will help you, b/c that was a tough thing for me to gage too.?
  • Ok, thank you!!
  • I have a question too!! =)

At our newborn care class they said that we should try to put the baby in shirts that aren't snapped at the bottom (not a regular onesie) until the umbilical cord falls off. I hadn't heard that before. Were you told that too? We have plenty of newborn onesies, but only a couple newborn side snap shirts. Do we really need to get more of those? By the time her cord is healed, won't we probably be into 0-3 and never use the newborn onesies?

We are considering just using the onesies and not snapping the bottom and then putting a little sleep gown over that for bed time.. that would seem open enough for me.

    What do you think?

    TIA!!!

  • This is not my post, but I can answer a few questions.

Here is a great thread with the number of each items you will need:

As for the umbilical cord, what you learned in your NB class is correct.  You don't want to do much around that umbilical cord until it falls off.  DD's cord fell off at 9 days, so it wasn't that long.

As for the NB onesies, DD wore NB sizes until she was over a month old, so you will still be able to use them.

  • The only other big thing that we used right away was our swing, we got the Boppy swing that is shaped like a scoop and DD could feel snuggled in it even when she was just home from the hospital.

As for bibs, it totally depends on how often you want to do laundry.. we go through about 5 a day, DD is FF and is a sloppy eater! We have about 25 bibs and I do laundry every 3 days or so. PNP sheets I only have two and have two?mattress?pad covers for underneath and that seems to be enough. Nipples for bottles, we have 6. I was using the Platex Drop in's but DD has had really bad gas and switched to the Dr. Brown's bottles and her gas has been cut in half. I would always have a couple extra nipples in case and would have the next step up flow at home too. I have 5 burp clothes and that seems to be enough for me, but I was only able to BF for 2 weeks, if I was going to BF longer I would have bought more, or bought some of the cloth diapers from BRU to use, they are SUPER?absorbent. Towels- 4, Wash clothes about 10. Onsies, I'd plan to use 2 or 3 a day.. between accidents and spit up you can go through a lot. Oh, and get some NB onsies not just 0-3 month, My DD was in premie clothes for 5 weeks! She was 6 pounds 10oz 19.5 inches when she was born and the 0-3 months were to big. Sleepers I would have about 4 or 5. And?definitely?invest in some sleep sacks and halo swaddle blankets, at 3 am it's a lot eaiser to velcro your little one in to the blanket then try to wrap them!?

Oh, another thing I would have at home is a small can of a milk based formula and a soy based JIC.

    Good luck and Congrats!!

  • We weren't told anything about the onsies.. but were told to let the cord get some air when changing her diaper and to make sure the diaper was folded down so moisture didn't get up to the cord. ?I think that having some of the wrap onsies isn't a bad idea. Also, DD ?was 6 pounds 10 oz 19.5 inches long at birth and was in Premie clothes until she was 5 weeks old and is just getting in to her 0-3 month and starting to out grow her ?NB clothes now at 2 months :) you never know! I say have family pick up some NB or Premie size if you need it when you see how big your DC is.

    Good luck! Congrats!?
