Eco-Friendly Toys.

I am starting to compile a Christmas list and I trying to select toys that are more eco-friendly. Can you recommend some toys that are eco-friendly and suitable for a toddler? TIA.

Re: Eco-Friendly Toys.

  • DD loves Melissa and Doug toys.  Not all are totally EF, but they are definitely better than most.  We also love Haba and Plan toys.  Her favorite thing right now is a set of plain wooden building blocks.  She loves to build little castles and houses.  Books are always a great choice for us, b/c DD loves them and they will last for all our kids, then we can pass them on.  Consignment sales are a great way to be EF - the toys themselves may not be EF, but at least you will be re-using and we always seem to find things that look brand new.  Santa loves consignment! :)

  • I just asked about this. Everyone suggested Melissa and Doug. I found a nice selection of gently used Melissa and Doug toys at a childrens resale shop. The toys were in great condition and finding it gently used was wallet friendly and made it even more green.

  • My kids really like the Green Toys trucks. I also really love woman wood worker on etsy. Super cute stuff.

  • I like Plan and some Haba (they're manufacturing some in China now so I watch for that) and I avoid Melissa and Doug because of toxicity concerns with their paints and also personal experience with their unethical (IMO) marketing. I basically don't buy anything made in China and avoid plastic and anything obviously mass-produced. Almost all of my daughter's toys are by Plan.

  • I like miYim for organic soft toys.
