6th night of Ferber-is it going to work?

The book says it can take 7 nights but takes 3 - 4 for most people.  So I'm worrying that this might not work.  DS does fall asleep usually within the first 10-20 minutes & that's it.  But is he going to cry every nite we put him to bed??  Anybody have any experience with this?  Thanks so much.

  • That sounds like a nitemare to do :-{ Sorry that you have to go through all of that.  Sorry that I'm no help, too.  Perhaps he just needs to be a little older?  I know all babies have different maturities and develop in different ways.  Just a suggestion, and good luck

  • Yeah I kind of agree.  Maybe he does need to be a little older :/  Sorry, I know that's not very helpful.

  • From what I know of Ferber as well, I agree with other posters. If you give it a good long stretch of trying and no improvement, he might still be too young to self soothe enough. We have never had to sleep train yet though, so this isn't coming from experience. Good luck!

  • 10-15 minutes of crying is considered "success" with sleep training. Some babies will not stop crying before falling asleep until they are older.

  • That was such a helpful link thank you!  Btw it has actually worked in that DS was waking up 3-4 times in the first few hours before we started.  Also the crying is short anywhere from 1 min to 15 or so initially & then he sleeps the entire night with no more wakings. So for us it's been a good thing & according to the link we're doing well which is considered crying for less than 30 min.  I always thought I'd never Ferber but once he stopped sleeping thru the night for nearly a month I knew I had to do something.  B/c it's working as he now sleeps thru the nite I don't think he's too young.  According to the link I think I need to just keep at it & soon enough the crying will cease when he learns this is the new way.  It also said there's an uptick in crying toward the end of the week as they realize this is going to be permanent, so that's where I'm at.  Thanks again for the link, it's quite informative.
