OB apt today

I had my followup apt at my OB today. He assured me that if your water breaks at 18 weeks, there is nothing you can do... The babies are not going to make it. I felt so guilty about this because I wondered if I had not thought it was pee and went to the hospital sooner, I wondered if they could have stopped labor.

He said not to try to get pregnant for 2-3 months. He also said if I got pregnant again, they would monitor me more closely, do progesterone injections during 2nd tri, and probably do a cerclage once I was pregnant.

I haven't called my RE yet to tell them about our loss, so I need to do that. Dh and I still need to talk about what we want to do, but I'm thinking maybe we try a couple months on our own before cycling again with the RE. We are MFI, but hey, it's not impossible.

  • ((HUGE HUGS))  I'm glad you got some reassurance from your doctor.  It clearly wasn't anything that you did that caused this to happen.  I hope hearing it from your OB lets you accept that.

I'm so sorry you are going through all of this.  But, I am amazed at your strength.  I can't believe how open you have been and that you are already back supporting all of us.  You are truly amazing.

I'm glad your OB has given you some options for the next time you are PG.  Because it will happen for you.  ((HUGS))

  • That is correct. My water broke at 21 weeks. I went immediately to get checked out. It was diagnosed within a few hours. I was told my chances of making it to viability-that is 24 weeks-were almost none. There is just nothing that can be done when your water breaks far from viability. I was advised to wait 2 full cycles, then with the start of my third cycle, my RE said a FET would be ok.I lost my babies in march. Got a period in April, another in May, then with my June period I started meds for the frozen cycle. Had embryo transfer in July, now I'm 8 weeks. It was recommended very strongly by my RE and 2 perinatologists that I have single embryo transfers only. My RE has recommended weekly progesterone shots in the second trimester, but not a cerclage.
  • I am so sorry you are going through this and I admire your attitude so much! So happy you received some reassurance today. Hugs!

  • ((((hugs))))  I am glad that your appt. went well.  As hard as this all is, to know that you did all you could and that there was nothing they could do must be somewhat reassuring.  Not that it makes this any easier at all.

I think it makes sense to try on our own for a little while, whenever you and DH feel like you are ready.  You are right, you never know, things could work on their own.  And going through treatment takes a lot out of you.

You are in my thoughts and prayers hun - I think of you all the time.  ((((hugs)))

  • I'm so sorry you are going through this.  I'm very glad that the OB reassured you that there was nothing you could have done differently.  I sure that doesn't make the loss any easier, but as least you know you did everything right.

I'm truly amazed by your strength and courage.  It's wonderful that are you already back here supporting everyone.  You are an amazing women!

    Huge hugs!!

  • I am glad your doctor reassured you...he is right there is nothing you could have done.

I have met with many doctors about preventing what happened from happening again.  I am sure if you are still waiting for all the tests to come back in but if does not show you had an infection, it is possible it was not only PTL but IC,

If you want any information on the cerclage I had placed please let me know.  Some consider it a radical procedure but I was going to go to any length to make sure it doesn't happen again.

We are not preventing right now either but like you I know it is a long shot.  I never could bring myself to call my RE and eventually they called me to see how I was and I had to tell them what had happened.

Thinking of you hon and I think you are handling all of this amazingly well.  I hear if you ever want to talk/ask questions.
