What do you do (GTKY)

Re: What do you do (GTKY)

  • I work as an activity assistant at a nursing home. I work Tuesday-Saturday 8am to 4:30 pm. It's not horrible, though it sucks not having Saturday off with DH, but having Mondays off are nice for doctors appointments and such. I would like to not have to work after having a baby, but that might not be an option. I'm hoping my work will allow me to become part time, maybe.

DH is an actuary at an insurance company. He works M-F 8am-5:00pm or later, depending on his projects. He also does a lot of stuff at home after work for his job. This will not be changing.

     All Welcome :)

  • I am currently an Admissions representative at an entertainment based/hands on college. I am working on my Master's degree however so become an elementary school teacher, and will be done in March. I would love to be a SAHM but that is not financialy in the cards, and at least as a teacher I get a lot more days off than any other job.

DH is a financial aid officer at the same college, but his true passion is being a writer. I'm hoping that one day we can be financially stable enough that he can stay at home with the children and write, but we'll see.

  • I supervise foster care caseworkers.  Our office is open Mon-Fri from 9-5, but crisis comes up all the time and I'm secondary on-call every other week.  On-call generally consists of answering the worker's calls/questions, but occasionally if there are 2 calls at a time I'll have to go out and respond.  DH manages a restaurant and works a variety of shifts, more 2nds and weekends than 1sts.  We'll try to minimize daycare time between me working 1sts, DH working 2nds, and both of our parents living within 20 minutes of our home.  I'd love to be a SAHM, but unfortunately my income is primary so I won't have that luxury.

  • I'm a Realtor and have a pretty flexible schedule.  I'm typically in the office from 9-2 each day and schedule appts with clients around that time but can change my office time as needed.  DH owns restaurants and works 70+ hours/week but he doesn't go in til noon or later most days.  When we have babies I'll cut my office hours back and he'll wait to go in until I'm home.  For any overlaps and so I can keep showing houses and meeting with clients, MIL will be our daycare.

  • I'm a registered nurse and work night shift (three nights on, two nights off).  H is a full service restaurant manager and works a varied schedule, and works a lot of late nights.  We're just going to work with our schedules as we can, I'm not sure how we're going to do it, but we'll make it work.  I'm most likely going to start looking for a new job when I go on maternity leave, so my schedule might change.  We will have to do daycare, which we are both okay with.

  • I am a Speech Language Pathologist at a nursing home.  I can pick my own schedule, as long as I treat all the patients on my caseload.  I usually work 8-4 or 8:30-4:30 (depends on how many times I hit the snooze button!).  DH services radiology equipment at a company that trains others to do this and also sells used equipment.  He works 8-5, very very rarely going over that.

Nothing will change when we have a LO, except maybe I will go to 7-3 or 7:30-3:30, just so I am out of work earlier and can spend more time with the baby in the evening.  LO will probably go to daycare, unless we can find an affordable nanny.
