I saw in a post below that your twins eat 70 oz a day. Are you able to supply all that yourself? How do you do it? I am dipping into my frozen stash for the 45 oz a day for my two.
I do supply that all myself. It isn't easy. When I started to BF I would nurse them and then pump right after. My mom stayed with me for the first month so I had the help that allowed me to do this.
Unfortunately all I did was create a stash (that I had to throw away when I moved) and an engorgement problem. Once my supply regulated I nursed 100% of the time until I went back to work.
Now that I am back to work I am struggling (and have thought about quitting). Most mornings I nurse them when they wake up and pump after (I yield anywhere from 3-5 oz per breast). I generally have more than they can eat 1st thing in the morning because I don't pump overnight. Then I pump every three hours after the first pumping session and get 4-5 oz pre breast. Usually I am able to bring home 30 oz. I pump around 6:30 when I get home from work and then nurse around 7:30 when the babies are going to bed. I pump one more time at 10:00 before I go to bed. Overnight the babies wake up to eat at least once and I nurse.
So between the 40-50 oz that I pump and all the nursing I figure they are eating around 70 oz between the two of them.
We have recently started cereal at night but aren't using it as a replacement at this point.
Needless to say, I am ALWAYS tired and feel like a milk machine. I have a very demanding job and I try to make pumping a priority. Luckily I have my own office and can just shut the door while I am on a conference call.
My mother in law also used to make me lacation cookies like crazy. Don't know if they helped but they were tasty.
One last thing. Make sure you are drinking lots of water and getting lots of calories. I notice a difference if I don't have time to eat and/or drink.
