Food Allergy

Ordered an allergy bracelet for my son's peanut allergy...

I'm so happy I finally did this.

We have known about his allergy for almost 2 years.  I carry the epi-pen religiously and have one at his daycare at all times.  I make sure we don't have peanuts in the house and also ask friends/family not to allow him near them.

But lately I have been feeling like we are getting a little too "lax" with this allergy and I get nervous because he has never been exposed to peanuts (that we know of) and I am so afraid of what might happen.  He has other food allergies and they all cause ecsema but you never know w/ the peanuts...

Re: Ordered an allergy bracelet for my son's peanut allergy...

  • getting an allergy bracelet was one of the best decisions we have ever made. It took 3 bracelets for us to get it right, but finally he loves his current bracelet... i feel like he would get scared without it. he's only two and walks around so proudly with it, showing it to everyone!  but the peace of mind is awesome. I always worry about an accident and someone giving my son a cookie or something.  Or if he gets lost.

    glad you got it!

  • Exactly!  It is just the unknown if someone gives him something he shouldn't have.  Where did you get your bracelet from?  I just ordered from sticky jewerly but would love a recommendation if there is another good place.  Thank you!

we have this one - https://www.americanmedical-id.com/marketplace/build.php?buildwhat=bracelet_jfk

I love it b/c it fits his tiny wrists. We originally got him a Velcro one and he just ripped it off.. Then we got one of those stretchy bands but it fell off his wrists (the smallest one).. so this one is perfect b/c you can make it as small as you want.

I did get couple of comments from young kids (why does he have a girl bracelet on?) so i know once he starts school i might need to either move onto a cooler velcro bracelet or jazz it up with a bad-a$$ charm lol.

not sure if this link will work.. but here is a photo of my son and i think you can see the bracelet (i copied the link from my ipad and emailed it to myself since my work blocks it)

  • I swear by ours.  My dd's is super bright (allerbling) and it has stopped more than one adult from giving her food at school that would make her sick!

that one is cute!  I just wish they had more options for charms.  My daughter really needs a garlic one and they only have the top 8 plus a few other common ones.

  • DS doesn't have one yet but I'm thinking about getting him this one in the toddler size. I'll have to see if they can do one for onions and garlic. It's from Etsy.

the main side has "Allergy Alert" and the other side has his full name and under it has "Milk, Soy, Eggs, Peanuts"

i'm planning on getting another one and adding a phone number.

We got this one thanks to your recommendation!  We love it!  So noticeable that we have already recommended it to people who have noticed it and wanted one too!  He loves to wear it.

  • I ended up getting her this one and ran out of room for text, so I wasn't able to add Call 911 or our phone numbers.  So I was limited to say this.  Do you think it's ok?:

    Allergy Bracelet

    Food Allergy

    First Name, Last Name

    Use Epi-Pen:

    Peanut, Garlic

    Dairy (OVER)

    and the back says:

    Additional Allergies:

    Banana, Beef, Coconut,

    Oats, Pork, Soy,

    Tomato, Dog, Cat

I probably should have used the word "use epipen" on mine. Didn't even think of it.  I'm planing on getting a new one so i'll add it.

I don't think you need "call 911" b/c anyone with any common sense (or even those that lack it) should know to call 911.
