TTC after 35

intro and questions but please no snark or flames, thanks.

Ladies,

First of all I am happy to see this board exists but I am somewhat reluctant to spill it all because the last time I tried to post to a TTC board, I was flamed because the audience did not think my conception challenges were as challenging as theirs.

I am 37 and I am blessed to have a 16 month old son that I had at 35.  We conceived him after a micarriage and feel so blessed to have him.  We always wanted a 2nd and have been TTC for 5 months.  However, after reading some earlier posts, I wonder if I have been sabotagging myself.  I heard other ladies say they have not had period while BFing and I wonder if that is the reason for my irregular periods.  I still BF my son first thing in the morning and at night.  I wonder if this is the root of my problems.  I have preiod but they are longer than my pre-pregnancy cycle and recently have become much lighter.  Also, although we have been using an ovulation kit for the past 4 months, we have not been successful.

Please feel free to offer flame free suggestions while I reply to the other intro questions below:

  2. Where you are from (general location is fine) -- Minneapolis

3. How you met your DH or significant other -- we were introduced by his cousin at a group dinner

4. What do you do for a living? -- finance manager

5. Something interesting about yourself --- at a loss, I'll just state the obvious, I am grateful for the one I have but would love to add anothr to our family.

  • Hi, Wanted to welcome you to the board.  All the women are very nice here....only time that I've seen negative posts is when someone who has never posted all the sudden posts a "BFP and it can happen for you!"  Most women here feel that that's insensitive to what we are going through (although, sometimes women who post such comments have no idea).  I have found that the best way to get support, is to offer yours.....and just be present about what's going on with others.  Wishing you best of luck in your TTC journey, and hope to see you around!

  • Hi and welcome. I am new too and have a 4yr old, TTC #2. Each of us are in a different place in our TTC journey but we all have the same desire. No one should ever tell you that your issues are not important. I do think that the breastfeeding may be causing your irregular cycles. I would suggest a call to your OB or even a lactation consultant to ask them their professional opinion. Can't hurt to ask.

  • Welcome.  I am new to the site and to ttc.  This site is a god send for me.  You can really say what you are feeling with out the fear of negative responses.  It is great to ask questions you might feel are dumb, but no one else really thinks that.  I would talk to your OB and see if the BF is preventing you from getting pregnant.  I wish you nothing but the best.  Hope your journey is a short one!!  Big Smile

  • Welcome to the board.  This board is not as snarky as some of the others.  The women on here have lots of great advice and are very supportive of each other.

Hi!  I can't really welcome you to this board, as I don't post here too often (usually on Secondary IF - check us out too!!!) but I wanted to address your question about self-sabotage - while many women can get PG while BFing, for many others, it can work as a form of birth control.  I'd hate to see you stop BFing just to get pregnant, but you may have better luck once you have quit BFing.  There also seems to be some evidence in the natural community regarding a "spike" in fertility in the first 2-3 months after weaning.  GL to you!  Smile

P.S. Sorry you got flamed - this board isn't like that - great women here!

  • Hello and welcome! The ladies here are at all different stages of the TTC journey and are supportive.
  • Thanks for the support ladies.  I didn?t get to log on again until now but I wanted to say that I have thought about completing the final stages of weaning for months now.  I had so many problems with supply that I am shocked that I still produce at all and I have cut back to 2 feedings/day since 8.5 months.  I think my son does it more for comfort more than anything else and at almost 17 months, I am completely comfortable with weaning.  I think it is worth asking my ob about because My cycles have been less frequent and the time in between cycles is longer prior to pregnancy.  I assumed it had to do with me getting old J but never guessed that bfing could be a cause.  Thanks again, this board is already proving to be enlightening.

  • I wanted to say welcome to the board too!  The women here are extremely supportive & a wealth of knowledge & are generally flame-free.  Unless, like PP stated, someone that we've never seen or heard from posts some insensitive BFP comment or ticker test that seems like they're flaunting it in our faces.  We welcome everyone whether you're TTC #1 or #4 or more.  Being the older women that we are, I think that we're a little more mature than some of the other boards.  Hopefully you can find some helpful info in previous posts too.

P.S.  Your son is super cute!
