Babies: 6 - 9 Months

what to do with purees?

LO is almost 8 months and is now only interested in finger foods.  He is over the puree thing and of course I still have some in the freezer that I want to use up.  Any suggestions on what to make with these to get him to eat them?  The only thing I can think of is pancakes.  I have the following purees in the freezer:  carrots, green beans, beets, brocolli, & strawberry.  TIA.

Re: what to do with purees?

  • I still put them in yogurt, applesauce, and pasta sauce for my 2.5 year old. She's non the wiser :)

  • If he'll still take food from a spoon, try mixing in diced fruits/veggies, meat, pasta, etc. to make it textured and chewable.  I just started doing this for DD.  Makes it like the Stage 3 jarred foods.

  • I mix orzo pasta with vegetable purees, yogurt with fruit purees, or add small chunks of chicken or brown rice to make them chunky. You could mix some hummus with one of the purees and spread it on toast or pitas.
  • I mix them with those little star pastas for K or add them to our pasta sauce.  I almost always add squash and/or carrots to our marinara!

  • I make meatballs or turkey burger patties and mix in a container of purees with some bread crumbs.  I also mix them with pasta sauce, pancakes, oatmeal, etc.
  • I second the pasta and yogurt suggestions. This will be me too in a few months. I know I will end up with more purees than needed by the time she is done.

  • I've been spreading fruit purees on toast. It's a big hit.
