Voracious reading

Last week M was demanding I read to him constantly; like, read the same book 5 times, I tell him "no more" so he gets another book... that I read 5 times, etc.

I assumed it was because I'd been hobbled by stepping on one of his toys, but I'm back to normal and able to do other things now and he still wants to be read to all day long.

Any other book lovers?

My older one is 5 and still begs for this....I think he knows I want him to be excited about reading so he thinks he is making me happy! They know just how to get to you don't they?

Ada has a low shelf of board books that she has always had access to. I also have some paper books on a low shelf in her room (they're from Goodwill). I may regret it and this may not be a permanent change but I just moved all of her really nice picture books to a low shelf. I couldn't take it anymore - she knew exactly what she wanted to read every time but standing there with her to find that one book out of 50 was tiring (literally). I think she would rather read than do anything else.

Delaney has become like this over the past few weeks - it's like a switch got flipped.  I mean, before she would tolerate books and sit with me if I read them to her - but now, she is grabbing the books and looking through them herself of will bring them to us and sit on our lap for us to read to her.  She also has a bookshelf in her room and we will sit in the rocking chair at bedtime and read a book - then she hop off my lap and grab another book...lather, rinse, repeat....after about 4-5 books, I put her down for bed.

It really makes me so happy how much she loves books :)

My 4 y.o. just LOVES reading books right before his bedtime. He wants to go on and on, to avoid going to bed.

oh yes. S has been asking me to read since she was about 11 months old (when she started bringing me books). it's generally the same pool of books, which gets old, but she loves them and i'm totally cool with her loving on books. and now that she's talking, i ask her to read them to me when she brings them over. : )

Sadly, not as much as I'd like. I blame it on DH turning the TV on as soon as he gets home and not reading to his son at night. I try to read books to A, but I can only hold his interest for a few minutes, and only if we're in another room with no TV on. It's getting increasingly harder to keep him away from the boob tube.
Me: 44 DH: 42. DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09. TTC since then with no luck or ART. Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.

Yeah, M went through a phase of not even being allowed to touch his paper books because he'd tear them, and he even destroyed several board books. I now keep a stash in a crate out oh his reach on a bookshelf and only bring down a few books at a time.

He has a few favorites and lets me know what he wants, but sometimes it takes a while too interpret what he thinks they're called. Hairy Maclary being "rarararee." Obvious once you realize, but a head scratcher at first.

Margaux LOVES books.  Her first recognizable complex sentence was "I want to read a book."  I love that she's gotten to the point where sometimes she just grabs a book and talks to herself as she looks through it, remembering the words (or making up new ones.)  :)

Miller loves his books. He likes to look at them from back to front and then the right way.  Lately I have been watching (and admiring!) him as he run his fingers over the words, and says, "Da da waba boo :::throat clearing noise:::da da waba boo...." Then he's done, and he starts over again.

both of mine are.  I will read to them for as long as time allows and then it is a warning of "last book" and that is it.
