Have you stopped using your pumpkin seat?

Silvie is 17.5 pounds and her feet hang off the end of the pumpkin seat. She can sit up on her own now so I'm thinking I probably don't need it anymore, I can just stick her in the grocery cart when I go shopping, right? She loves her big carseat too. I'm hesitant though simply because she's not 20 pounds yet, but I can't see why that is the rule either.

So how many of you have stopped using it and what was your reason?

This.  I've never heard of it before, but based on the description, it sounds helpful.  I want to know more!

  • Just looked it up...

It's the car seat/carrier combo that we all used when our LO's were first born.

I was thinking the same thing...Tatum's feet hang off the edge and it's WAY too heavy, we now just get her out of the car and leave that part connected to the base in the car. I want to transfer her to the convertible style seat, but waiting it out a few more months.

  • We just bought a Britax last week on sale and started using it today. SO much easier getting him in and out of the car. He is 17 pounds and 27.5 inches long, so it was heavy and the straps looked uncomfortable for him. We just have one convertible now and will buy a second one later. We have the other seat in DH's car, but he is only in it right now from home to daycare which is 5 minutes away. To me it is easier, but a drawback is if I go somewhere and he is asleep, I have to get him out. I guess another thing to consider is if they can sit up for the grocery cart or seat at a resturant.

  • We are still using our infant carrier in the car. We have the Snugride 35, so we still have 17 lbs til the limit and over 5 inches to the height limit. I don't carry her in it when we do errands, just from the house to the car. The last two times I have lifted her into a cart in the seat, I hurt my shoulder, so the seat just stays in the car.
  • Well, that's disappointing.  I was hoping it was something new and interesting/helpful.  We switched a few weeks ago because it was just impossible to go shopping with 2 kids in the cart.  I could hardly fit anything in there.  So I switched over to the Ergo carrier, and my son is allowed to walk beside me IF he sticks close.  Once she sits up a little better (lazy baby!!) I'll let her sit in the seat.

  • I definitely thought you were referring to LO's bouncy chair, because that is what we call his bouncy seat, that's what my mom used to call it when we were little.  (We still use that when I shower).  We are in between his infant car seat and a rear facing myride 65.  He uses the infant seat in H's car and the myride 65 in my car.  I always wear DS in the grocery store.

  • He's still in the infant seat. I usually keep him in his seat, but I'm starting to get just him out of the seat since he's getting heavier.

  • I have never hard it called that before, interesting.

We just switched over to a convertible car seat. I bought two Evenflos and saved us a little over $40 at Target on sale. With the infant carseat I never took him out of the base since he was too heavy for me so MH would get left without a car seat if I forgot to take it out. That and DS' feet were dang near over the edge even.

  • I've never heard it called that. DD is still in the infant carrier or bucket seat. She'll be in it for a little bit longer. I wanted to get her to the end of the year with just leaving the seat in the car, but that won;t work if MH has to pick her up and the seat is in my car. We may end up switching DS over to a combo booster sooner then later so DD can have his seat.

  • We only use ours in the car, and we keep it snapped in the base. She is way too heavy to carry around in it now (almost 21 lbs). In our other car, we went ahead and got a convertible car seat. We are hoping to get a few more months out of the infant seat just to spread out the cost of two convertible seats. We have the Snugride 35 as well, so we should be good for quite a bit.

  • We stopped using our infant seat around 5 months when he could sit up well in a high chair or shopping cart. He loves it and it's much easier to get out and about. If he's sleeping, I transfer him to the Ergo and walk around the store/mall/whatever with him that way.

  • We still use it, and I lug it in and out of the car each time.  I put her in the baby Bjorn in the grocery store.  I don't know when we'll switch her over, but she doesn't seem too heavy for it yet.  Or maybe I'm just butch and have huge arm muscles.  Wink
