Ferberizing naps? (long)

I posted this on the 6-9 months board also:

Hi Ladies,

DS is just approaching 7 mos old. He is wonderful at going down at bedtime ( I never really had to do anything it just kinda happened ), but during the day is another story. I bought the Ferber book months ago, but haven't been emotionally ready to incorporate it. Well, I thought today might be the day--morning nap was a total FAIL. He usually goes down 2.5 hrs after he wakes, so I will usually change him into his 'day clothes', give solids, etc. about 45 mins before that time, by then he shows tired cues and falls asleep on me which I then put him down for a nap. The other 2 naps are kinda random, so I know I need to start a 'nap routine' perhaps? The book says that if by 30 minutes he doesn't go to sleep to stop naptime but don't let him sleep longer than his usual naptime later in the day. My question is do I keep going with this all day with his napping and hope he falls asleep on his own at his afternoon/early evening nap? Or do I stop for today and try again tomorrow?  I pray to god that this doesn't screw up bedtime either. Thanks in advance. This is sooo hard- it breaks my heart hearing him cry-I'm not used to hearing him cry so hard, it hardly ever has escalated to that point :(
