Yes I know for most of you this will be "NMS" but it is on our name list for now and I'd like to know your thoughts.
We like it because....
My DH name is Bryce. He was named after Bryce Canyon after his parents visited they're while expecting him. So you see the connection. We like the Western sound of it. It's not too popular. It sounds really good with our last name.
Hesitant because....
I'm afraid it sounds trendy and I hate trendy. My brothers name is Caylon ( yes my parents made that one up :-( ) and Canyon is similar sounding.
Re: Canyon
I don't think it sounds trendy, it just sounds like a place I'd go visit instead of a made up baby name.
You're right - nms.
No.
I refer to names like these (Canyon, Pilot, Zuma, Apple) as "personality substitutes." Basically, they make me think the parents are so terrified their kid will grow up to be uncool that they gave him a ridiculously unique name to ensure that he's got some sort of fallback.
In addition to Canyon lacking versatility (I can't just as easily picture someone named "Canyon" being a doctor as, say, skydiving instuctor) "Bryce" and "Canyon" is over-the-top.

I actually had a Canyon in school many years ago, his sister was Whisper.
Enough said?
Canyon is a little too odd to me. I googled names of canyons and found the following:
Canyon de Chelly (AZ)
Canyon Sainte Anne (Quebec)
Charyn Canyon (Kazakhstan)
Fraser Canyon (BC, Canada)
Logan Canyon (Utah)
St. Christopher's Canyon (Puerto Rico)
Tara River Canyon (Montenegro, Europe)
I'm sure if you kept looking you could find more. They may not be your style (honestly, I probably wouldn't use most of these), but it's an idea if you want to stick with the connection to YH's name and decide Canyon isn't for you.
Wow you couldn't be more wrong with this. We have no fear of that for our child. When naming DD we had more of a fear of giving her a name that so many other people had. Because most parents can't think outside of the top 10 name box and make it a personal choice.
That was a great idea. Thanks for doing that. We aren't stuck on the whole Canyon connection at all by any means. Just a name we both liked. Our other boys name picks are Lincoln which obviously has nothing to do with a place ect.. and Denver which is DH Great Grand fathers name.
With such a beautiful name like Adelaide Rose, I think you'd be doing your other child a bit of a disservice naming him something like Canyon.

*shrug* I'm just saying what I'd think if I heard someone I knew named their kid Canyon. But nice passive aggressive dig there. Very subtle.
Approximately 92% of children are given names outside of the top 10, so don't pat yourself on the back too hard.

I am always going to think a name is lame when the reason behind it is "because it goes with my name" (in this case you DH's)
"Hi. My name is Bryce. This is my son, Canyon."
Nope...super cheesy.
Plus, it really doesn't work well with your daughter's name, which is unusual but not too out there.
I say lose that one and Go Fish for something that works better.
This.
I don't like it, but I understand why your in-laws gave your husband his name, why don't the two of you give your son a name with a connection between the two of you?
The Brice Canyon thing was covered, if you like the idea, name your son after something that holds meaning between you and your husband,
It makes me think of porn star Christy Canyon.
