We have a very Irish last name and DC #2 is due on St. Patrick's day. If it's a girl, DH has decided he wants to name her Clover. Ugh. I *think/pray/hope* he is joking. Just in case he is not, give me some ammo to fight back. Opinions?
I was buying DD a trinket today, with a clover on it, since she was born on st. Patrick's day. The woman at the store asked if I named her Patty. Drives me nuts.
These all help. Thank you. My reaction was that it sounded like a cow's name. He was very offended but now keeps referring to the baby as Clover. I think he's just messing with. I think.
You're giving birth to a child, not a leprechan or a dairy cow. (Does that help?)
FWIW, I recently saw a baby announcement in my small hometown newspaper that someone had named their SON that... and to make it more cool.. the spelled it Klover. I predict a lifetime of wedgies for that poor boy.

I've always loved Clover but only as a nickname for a regular, more formal given name. I agree that you don't need to start a C initial trend. Would you be ok naming her something like Margaret, Katherine, Marion, Elizabeth, etc. and just using Clover as a nickname? Or if not, just letting it be his personal nickname for her?

It's not a name for a human. I think it could be cute for a middle name, or just a nickname at home, "our little lucky Clover" or something. But not as a regular name for a person.
Re: Clover? For real?
you shouldn't have two kids who have the same first initial. You're not the Kardashians. Or the Duggars.
Would that work? Maybe help a little?

The actor, Neil McDonough, just named his baby Clover.

Reminds me of a horse.
Was that the bunny from Bambi? I think that Clover could be a sweet nickname that a dad gives his daughter, but a given name? No way.
There are some fantastic (legit) Irish names if that's what he's going for: Moira, Maureen, Deirdre, and on and on.

Sorry...
I do not like Clover at all.
Perhaps you can find some Irish Saints for name ideas? Or Irish, Celtic, Gaelic names instead?
I like it for my dog
