How much do you think your weight matters for a vbac? DH and I were going to start trying in 2 months, when I am done with my pack of seasonique. But today is the 19th day I have been bleeding, so I am certain my ob will be changing things when I see him this week. I want to just stop taking bc now, except for the fact that I wanted to lose about 25 more pounds before we ttc.
Re: Weight and VBAC chances
i agree. especially with this! and it's never too late to start taking better care of your diet and exercise routines, even after you get pregnant!
i also will add (and i know you didn't ask for comments on this, so feel free to ignore!), if you haven't already, you should probably talk to your doctor about ttc so soon after a c/s as well. it is generally recommended that moms wait 18 months after a c/s before becoming pregnant again to allow the uterus sufficient time to heal.
Most studies quote an interdelivery interval of 18-24 months to reduce risks of UR. That would equate to 9-15 months after delivery before TTC.
My ob knows we are going to try. He said I could get pregnant at my 5 week visit. My pregnancy was very healthy, I really didn't gain that much weight, and I only had a c section due to breech positioning.
In my opinion, the research shows that overweight women are less successful with VBACs because doctors don't have faith in their bodies, and that it has nothing to actually do with how their bodies work.
I started this last pregnancy about 35 pounds overweight and gained 40 pounds. The odds were "against" me because of my weight, but I had no problems at all with my VBAC.
