Probably asking for TMI, but don't they swab the butthole too?  Why do they need to do this?  I understand the baby may be exposed to strep in the vag, but MY baby isn't coming out my butt!  Please tell me they don't put the Q tip up real far.  My dr hasn't said when she's going to do this either.  Isn't it like 36 weeks?

Yup, 36 weeks on the nose.  I've heard that they sometimes do both.  I wondered the exact same thing.

They didn't swab my butthole.  I was thinking they were going to, and it was freaking me out.  But they didn't.

They swabbed both areas, but didn't go *in* the rectum.  If I didn't know it was going to happen I might not have realized she did it.

I guess I can deal with that.  Not that I have a choice in the matter.  Thanks for the info.  I actually do feel better about this.

First time I had it done just the vag was swabbed.  Second time was both.  They graze inside the vag, down the taint and graze the outside of the butt.

Thanks for the info.  I honestly didn't know exactly what to expect if they should decide to do both.  Call me relieved.

It's really not a big deal.  You'll feel more violated by the internal.

You'll barely feel anything, it's not that bad, lasts maybe 3 seconds. Nothing to be stressed over.

I was worried about having it actually stuck in my rectum to but all she did was say you'll feel this on your bottom real quick and swabbed the outside of it.  It's really not a bad exam at all, it is very quick.

I don't even know if the midwife got my butt or not - it was really no big deal.

Really it isn't a big deal.  It takes about 2 seconds.  They swab the vag and outside of the butt hole.  You wouldn't even know, that is how fast it is.
