So, if this one's a girl, the name I've been tossing around for awhile that I really like is Romy. But I want her to have a full name and use Romy as the nickname. I initially thought of Roma (since we went to Italy last year and that's what they call the city) but then my mom made the comment that its a tomato! I know what a Roma tomato is, and I eat them all the time, I just didn't think about it when I thought of the name. So my questions are:
1. Does Roma make you think of a tomato first, or do you think its a silly first name?
2. What other names could work for the nickname Romy? (I HATE Rosemary BTW.)
Re: Since I value your opinions, baby name help
What about Ramona? I love that name and Romy would be a good nickname
I think of the "Romona the pest" series and a tomato... sorry
lol I didn't think of tomato at first but now I do after reading that. I second not doing rosemary...
humm....you could do Romea and pronounce it Romy
I also like this name. People might remember it from the Beverly Cleary books, (Beezus and Ramona,Ramona the Pest...)although the books are pretty old now, and while Ramona is a little pesty to her sister, she's clever and cute.
We like Gabriel (Gabe) and Elijah (Eli) for a boy.
And I know I'm strange, but I have to have a full name. My name is Whitney, and I don't have a nickname other than Whit that is professional enough to use in the workplace or even be called by in school. I hated that. I didn't have any options. It was Whitney, and thats it. And our daughter is Silvia, but we call her Silvie. So I like the idea of having a full name (especially if its ending in an A) and calling her Romy.
The other girl name we like is Alaina and having the potential nicknames Lainey or Laina.
Thanks for the honesty about Roma ladies. I don't want my kid getting made fun of for her name in school!
I like Nicknames because you can call the baby a cutesy name, but when she grows up she can have a name that sounds more distinguished when she goes to get a job. One of the tests my little one's name had to pass was the "resume test." For me, Romy doesn't pass the "resume test." Ramona comes closer to passing it. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything else you can use Romy as a nickname...
ditto...down to another "just Kate"
