DH and I went out last night and ended up at a random bday party at a bar. We only knew one person there. I started talking to a woman who was obviously drunk, slurring her speech. When she mentioned her kids I asked the standard questions: names, ages, etc. Then she asked me if we had kids? No. Did we want kids? Yes. How old was I? (!!) Turning 38.

That's when it got weird. She cornered me in a booth said she was the same age as me and asked if we were trying. When I said yes (my standard answer to nosey people) she said "But are you trying trying? Have you seen a specialist?"

OMG!! I was so annoyed. I felt totally trapped and flustered. I tried to brush her off and said yes, we're trying everything and then changed the subject. But she wouldn't drop it! She asked if we were doing IVF and went into a story about how her sister is on her 4th IVF!

At that point I was glaring at DH across the room and even texted him to come save me, but he was oblivious.

She wouldn't let up, but she was drunk, so I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and not say something rude. But then she started talking about her nanny and how she's taking the nanny on vacation to the beach, and maybe they'll try for their 3rd kid while they're on vacation!

That's when I made a run for the bathroom and started plotting ways to kill her. I avoided her after that and we had fun with our friend.

Srsly, I cannot believe how rude people are.I was obviously trying to change the subject. Thank god no one heard us, or I would've been mortified. I wish I could just be mean and tell people to back the f#@k off.

I feel bad for her sister, struggling with IF and stuck with a rich, bitchy, super-breeder sibling who tells perfect strangers about her IVF. I would strangle any family member I caught doing that.

Why are people clueless? What would you guys have done?

Wow!!!  Stupidity & drunkeness DO NOT mix!!!!  I would've done everything that you did up to the point that she cornered me.  Then I would've politely told her that it was none of her business & walked away.  I mean, she was so drunk that she would've never remembered it!  I'm sorry that she reuined your night out!

But to answer your question.... If it had been me in your place AND I was feeling the way I do right now (Hormonal B!T@H would be a very appropriate name for me today) I would probably have used that moment to take a little of my frustrations out on her drunk A$$ since she would not have remembered it anyway.

Me:  "So how do you think your sister feels about YOU having no trouble getting pg?  Do you think she HATES you?  Do you ever feel guilty about leaving your precious children with a Nanny?  I mean do you REALLY think you are a good mother?"  All said with a smile of course.  

But that would be mean.. so don't do that.

Holy crap.  I'm SO sorry you had to deal with that looney-toons drunk.  I would have told her that it was none of her business and if she didn't let up then, would have just walked away.  But I'm a biatch like that.  Oh, and I would have hit DH upside the head for ignoring/missing my pleas for help.

I forgot to mention that the drunk chick is in sales at Morgan Stanley. Glad to know she can afford a lavish vacation, with nanny in tow, after the government had to bail out her firm which helped to tank the economy. There was so much to love about this girl. Not.

sorry you had to deal!!! Drunk people are even more irritating when you are not drunk and have to talk to them. I think that people who "know someone" that has IF issues feel they have to advocate or something. Don't you wish you could just put up your hand and walk away....
