2nd Trimester

Itching, Itching Itching

I know that it is normal for your tummy to itch while pregnant.  Has anyone had  this associated with a rash or bumps?  I am literally about to rip my skin off below my belly button.  I have little bumps below belly button right in center of tummy.  I can not get it to stop itching.  It is so bad that it is waking me up at night.  Any of you have this problem? What did you use to make it stop?  HELP PLEASE!!!!!

Re: Itching, Itching Itching

  • I don't remember if it's on the list of allowed medicine, but I'd suggest benadryl.  If nothing else, taking it at night should stop the inflamation enough to let you sleep.  Getting a few itchy bumps is normal, but I didn't have them that bad.  When in doubt, call your OB.

  • Ugh, if there are bumps it could be Pupps - a pregnancy related rash. If so, I'm so sorry! Google Pupps and you'll see images to help you figure it out. If it looks like that is it, talk to your OB about treatments.

I have terribly itchy skin (did with my first pregnancy too) on my belly and breasts, but it was just normal itching from the skin stretching. I use Gold Bond Medicated lotion (in the green bottle) and it helps a lot (at least right after I put it on!).

Benadryl is allowed as per my doctor.  I had to take it when I got stung by a bee.  So, if it is helpful... it is safe!

  • My skin hasnt been itchy but it's LITERALLY flaking off on both sides around my stomach and on my ribs. Almost like a sunburn, except I haven't been in the sun in weeks. I use lotion daily. It's DISGUSTING!

  • I didn't get them on my belly, but I did get them all over my legs. I switched to Aveno body wash which helps soothe itching skin. I also have the Palmer's Itch Relief Oil that I put on my stomach, and I put that on my legs as well. My bumps are all gone.

Dr did tell me to take benadryl, and that was about it.

  • I've had that and got Mother's Friend Skin Cream and it has helped so much to soothe my skin. No more bumps, itchiness, or dryness. I put it on every morning after I get out of the shower. At night I use the Mother's Blend Skin Toning Oil.
  • Also, for the itching during the day when you don't want to be sleepy, my doc approved Zyrtec/Claritin/Allegra. I'd still check with your doc because it might be pregnancy related. My doc also approved benedryl cream and 1% cortisone cream (this was when I had serious bug bites on my feet from being outside).
