Vtech, etc. electronic learning toys

I'm trying to get birthday/Christmas shopping out of the way early and started to think about electronic learning toys. Anyone have a Vtech E-Reader or MobiGo? Reviews on either? Any similar product you would recommend?

Claire is under the recommended age for both the vtechs I mentioned but my thinking is that I would rather have her grow into it than grow out of it too quick.
