"Once a crib has been converted to a youth bed or adult bed it is not intended to be converted back to a crib."
This is on the instructions for the crib.......WTH? What is the point then?
I was going to try it and see what he thought. But we will want this crib for another kiddo if one should come along.
Re: Huh?
Well it kind of makes sense to me.. the idea is that the crib would stay with the kid it started with.. Crib ---> Toddler bed ---> Big kid bed.. and you'd get a new crib for a 2nd kiddo.. which is why i never bothered with a convertible crib.
That being said, I'm SURE it is OK to convert it back to the crib, as long as the hardware allows it.

Natalie Ruth - Born 6/13/11 7lb 6.6oz
That's weird. I'd call too - just to see if there is a reason. Like as the kid gets heavier the stress gets focused on the guard rail and ...I dunno - I'm just making that up but you get the idea. Maybe the crib side that you take off can warp during storage?
But yeah, like Melissa said, it could just be a marketing ploy.
I know someone who lives in a tiny house and her child slept in a toddler bed for a very very long time. Like well into elementary school.
I called Simon's where we bought it. Mr Simon said it is fine and they are meant to go back and forth. He said it is part marketing and part CYA. He said cribs are warrantied to be used by one child, and so are mattresses. He said one brand of mattress has a 30 yr warranty and it covers multiple children....all others cover use by 1 child.
He said "some lawyer, somewhere" made them write it.
I think we will give it a whirl and then go to a twin if he does well! Then again....I might chicken out! lol
