What vitamins do you take?
What do you give to the kids?
I take a multivitamin, flax seed oil, Omega 3s, and some others. Cold/flu season I take a lot of other stuff, like echinacea&goldenseal, Vitamin C, and emergen-c packets.
The kids get: fiber gummies, multivitamin, "green" supplement, omega 3s. During cold/flu season they get some extra vitamin C.
It is crazy how much we spend on vitamins! I feel like a pharmacist or something when I fill up the pill boxes and handing out vitamins!
Re: Poll - vitamins
Me: Prenatal, DHA, Vitamin D
Ellie: chewable multivitamin
I just take a multi-vitamin, when I remember. DH takes one too... both of us have the Target brand men's/women's formula. While I was TTC, pregnant and BFing I took a prenatal.
Evan has some chewable vitamins w/ added iron... at his 1 year and 18 month checkups his iron was borderline low. But, honestly I always forget to give them to him!
Me: Prenatal, folic acid, iron, fish oil.
After my pregnancy I'll ditch the iron and after BFing I'll ditch the extra folic acid and probably switch to a regular multivitamin.
Stella: None right now. I'm going to ask about them at her 18 month check up.
Do you sale shop on Vitamins? Are you brand specific? There are frequently B1G1 at various stores, and there are lots of good vitamin coupons out there. I stock up, but we also don't take nearly that many vitamins. Honestly, that many seems a bit excessive to me.
Me: women's multivitamin, calcium, fish oil
DS1: gummy multivitamin
DS2 & DH: nothing
I just take a prenatal now.. when I was pg I took a prenatal plus an extra Calcium plus D and folic acid.
Eve takes a chewable multivitamin when I remember (which is usually when she asks for one.)
m/c 1/2/08 and 3/12/08
Eve Amelia- Born 2/24/09. 6lb 9.9oz
Natalie Ruth - Born 6/13/11 7lb 6.6oz
I'll do like a week on a multi and then forget about it for a month. I'm supposed to take iron but it makes me nauseous.
Nothing for the kiddos. Justin's ped said his diet seems to be providing what he needs. The twins are at 1/2 breastmilk 1/2 formula bottles so they don't need anything either.
Me: Just a prenatal and sometimes Vit D.
DD: Nothing, although she would probably be thrilled to get something gummy.
DH: Nothing, he doesn't remember to take his regular meds half the time.
We have a pill box so he can see if he's taken his meds and I always feel like a pharmacist when filling it each week (there's only 4 pills that go in each day).
I don't know the brand off the top of my head... got them at Target... but I take a prenatal gummy (gummie? hmm... weird) vitamin. They are delicious and there are definitely times when I eye them up in the medicine cabinet like a snack. First vitamin I've ever tried that doesn't give me that disgusting "I just ingested grass" after taste. Vitamin burps are the worst. bleh.
For a while I took GNC Vitapacks... but they got pretty pricey, even with the discount.

I take a prenatal, extra folic acid, fish oil, vit c, vit d, and calcium gummies.
Dh take a mens multi and vit c
DS takes 1/2 flinstones chew-able with iron....I won't give him gummies at all (fruit or vitamin).
TinyPinkBug - here's what I take and why
multi - for general health
flax seed oil - for skin (eczema) and to lower cholesterol (per my Dr I have slightly high cholesterol)
omega 3 - for heart health / esp w the high cholesterol
stuff I take in the winter for immune support because I am basically a single mom, so when I get sick, I"m on my own with zero help.. there were years I had like strep and a sinus infection.. I can't do that and watch 2 kids!
For the kids:
multi - for general health
fiber gummies - because they have both had issues and fiber can never hurt
DHA/Omegas- for brain health - the same DHA that is added to so many baby and kid's products (formula etc)
And DD has horrific eczema, so things like probiotics and flax oil are a lifesaver

Me-Prenatals and DHA (if I remember it), probably will have to take iron eventually, as I did with DD
DD-none-she hasn't for awhile. Her pedi said she probably doesn't need one.
I didn't mean anything negative or argumentative about it. Just saying it seems like a lot. I know you and the kids are vegitarians and eat a lot of veggies and healthy foods so I am surprised you would need so many vitamins when you and the girls are probably getting them naturally from a healthy diet. I know too much of any vitamin can be just as dangerous as not enough. Like too much Vit C causes things like diarhea, stomach aches, kidney stones...
No prob.. the kids take like 3 vitamins and 1 or 2 are really just fiber/probiotic type, not necessarily considered a vitamin. We really mostly take multis, the other stuff are supplemented as needed.. I would say the cold/flu stuff is mostly/often when we are trying to recover from something or feeling like we are coming down with something. Since Vit C is water soluble, excess generally gets flushed out.. I wouldn't go overboard .. I actually sometimes take a break from taking vitamins to give my body a break.
