Okay I am scared to death to use an online service but I need help and nothing is turning up through friends and family. Sooo how has your experience been with using it?
Never used it myself but I know that is one of the sites my SIL posts on as well as many of her friends from college (any of which I would trust with DD in a heartbeat). I think as long as you do your research you shouldn't have a problem finding someone great.
I have not used it to find a sitter, but I have a few of my teacher friends as well as myself who are all on there as a way to earn extra money. I also have had a friend that found a fantastic nanny though the website as well. Like the PP said, just make sure you are careful and make sure everything checks out. You can request a background check as well as references from people that you check out on there.
They had a special going on today from 11a - 3p 20% off premium membership. I signed up for the 3 month deal. We used it for LO#1. Interviewed about 6 or 7 girls and ended up using one of them. Then we didn't need the service for a while (at that time you could join monthly). Now that LO#2 is coming we have to start interviewing again. I work 3 days a wk and DH works from home, but will not be able to do that and watch 2 little ones at the same time. I liked Care.com. We also, used sittercity.com, but care.com seemed more user-friendly.
I considered using this but then read a lot of negative reviews of the website on various other websites. You have to pay to get the contact info for the care providers, and a lot of people said that they weren't able to cancel their subscriptions, they continued withdrawing from their checking accounts, etc. after they have cancelled, just really bad customer service. I have read really good things about Sittercity though. Just do your research!
I found our sitter through care.com, and I could not be happier! She is WONDERFUL and loves our son like he is her grandchild. I hope you have the same luck!

2 of my friends have found multiple sitters thru the site. They just interviewed and saved names and numbers while they were subscribed and then cancelled the service once they had enough sitters to call on
I haven't but I have a friend who used it to find sitter jobs while putting herself through nursing school. I would trust her with ds. She speaks highly of her expiernces with the site.

DH did an extensive search, and posted an ad on care.com we got over 60 replies to our post and interviewed about 10 of them. Three have babysat for us, and we still plan on using another 2. It's a great site! And well worth the $ for one month. We did it all in one month, printed out tons of pages so if our current stash runs dry we can go to that pile and not have to pay for another month. I would HIGHLY recommend it.
