Are your LO's attached to a blanket?

I'm not quite sure how it happened but Dylan is now attached to his blanket.  I think it started a few weeks ago.  And now that we only allow him his binky for naps and bedtime he wants his blanket even more. This is all very new to me, as Justin never had any attachments other than a binky.  And even then we had NO problems getting rid of his.  We just took it away one night and that was that.  I think Justin is a lot easier going than Dylan is.  I'm not quite sure how I feel about Dylan having his blanket.  I like that he has a comfort thing but I'm worried this will be a PITA.  I don't want him to bring it with him everywhere.  He sometimes cries for it now so I really think we need to decide if we'll let him have it all the time or put limits on it...like only having it at home.  I'm such a sucker though....when he cries for it I usually give in.

So how is it with your LO's?  Do they have it 24/7?  Do you only allow it at home or let them take it everywhere?  And if your LO's are older are they still carrying it around?  That's my fear too....that I'll have a 7 year old wanting to carry his blanky everywhere :o(

  • Ethan is very very very attched to his taggie blanket.  It's fine with us.  Taggie  goes everywhere and has been in many photos. sophia has a lovey that she always has with her.  I figure with ethan we will be using his taggie for the tarantella at his wedding
  • Evan has one of those little blankets w/ the bear head. We call it his "love-a bear" He is obsessed w/ it, and would carry it around every where, if we let him. He sleeps with it, and usually it stays in his crib once he wakes up. Lately I have to hide it under his pillow, or else he goes in his room and pulls it out through the slats.

I will let him have it if he gets hurt or really upset... because it calms him right down. I also keep it hidden in my purse if we are going out to a restaurant or someplace I need him to behave. I will tell him he can have love-a if he's being good. (it usually works to calm him down if he gets out of control!)

I wouldn't mind if he just carried it every where w/ him, but the reason I limit him having it out is because the second he sees the thing, his thumb goes right in his mouth. He doesn't suck his thumb, unless he's holding the bear. So for the sake of his teeth, I only let him have it at night. And on the rare occasion he has him at other times I'm constantly reminding him to not suck his thumb!

  • Ian goes through phases where he has to have a certain item 24/7, whether it be his lovey, a toy, a book, whatever. Sometimes he's fine with leaving it home, other times, he insists, and rather than dealing with a meltdown and we're late, we let him take it along. If we're going places where it could be easily lost, we let him have it, but he has to leave it in the car. Usually by the time we get wherever we're going, he's fine leaving it because he has so many other things to grab his attention. I think he'll grow out of having his lovey eventually, at least to the point of having it in his room only.
  • We got the twins those bear head dolls NikCole was talking about. They just need something in their hands and they'll behave.

Justin's blankets don't really leave bed but he is very attached to his 3 blankets- all fleece and he slept with them on all summer (we have no AC!!!). Every night he will name them as I put them on and if we forget one (it's on the floor or in the living room) he kinda freaks. "Ok, now My Hammy Hammy, now My Wall-E and now My so-soft" (handy manny blanket, wall-e blanket and a pbk soft furry blanket)

  • Belle is attached to two thing. Her blanket which of course is a full size blanket and a small stuffed minnie mouse. We are ok with it. She loves them and it comforts her. Minnie goes every where with us and goes to daycare with Belle. The blanket goes a lot of places with us but it depends on where we are going. It goes in the car to daycare but stays in the car. We don't take it to school just in case it gets thrown in the wash there. If we are going shopping it stays at home, going to grandmas house it comes with us.

She is so attached to this blanket we had to search every where for a duplicate. Washing it was a nightmare. Thankfully my step MIL saw it in a lot of Belle's pictures and bought her another one for Easter. We just ordered another Minnie Mouse last night because this one is getting really beat up and is starting to stink.

  • Leah has just started getting more attached to a lamb and a baby we let her sleep with. We'll let her bring them downstairs once in a while but they won't leave the house. Only because the thought of putting them to bed with germy lovies is disgusting!
  • E does not have an attachment to anything like that, except for his "plugs"...aka pacifiers.  We are going to attempt to be done with them soon.  I was VERY attached to a blanket growing up.

  • In the past two weeks Lorenzo has started asking for his hippo stuffed animal- He sleeps with it, he carrys it around the house- I let him take it in the car (sometimes) ...

my only issue with "hippo" is that he's 25.5 inches- so basically almost as big as he is...I've been looking for a smaller hippo but havent found one...

  • DD has a small (maybe 12'x12") blanket with Pooh & Piglet on it.  It's satin on one side and fleece on the other and was a hand-me down from my niece.  This is her "Pooh" and she sleeps with it every night and some days I can't make it out of the house without it.  Sometimes she'll take it to Grandma's house when MIL watches her but I never send it to day care.  She also carries it around the house with her sometimes.

She does the same thing with her "Kitty" that Wendy & Ian sent her for the V-Day exchange back in Feb.  (Thanks again!)  I try and wash both of them on Sunday mornings after she wakes up.  She chews on the corners of the lovie and it stinks!

DD has this and LOVES it! I got it as a shower gift thinking "eh" and the kid adores "bear". Mainly she just has it for nap and bedtime. Occasionally she'll want to bring it downstairs and carry it around and it doesn't bother me at all.
