1st Trimester

Do you keep testing after original BFP?

I realize this may be a dumb question.

Got a BFP on August 1.  I don't have my first appointment with my OB until 8/29. Should I continue to test? I've seen that some women continue to take HPTs even after their original BFP.  I haven't really even thought about it.

Re: Do you keep testing after original BFP?

  • i took a second test the next morning only because it was a box of two and it was either test or toss.  I also returned an unopen box to target.

    Just wait for your appt.

  • I didn't. I tested with a digital, got the results within seconds and haven't felt the urge to retest. It's early days, but my few symptoms are still very much present so I'm reassured by that. I was really lucky though, having success in cycle #2. I can completely understand why other ladies might like the reassurance of a few extra tests.
  • I only did because the first HPT was negative, the 2nd was a faint line after holding the stick in a cup, so I bought a digital and tested later to be sure.  It comes with 2 so a few weeks later I tested again because it was left and I wanted to make sure it would be positive at the doctors when I peed in a cup.  If your happy with one, just do one.  I probably would have just done one if I had gotten a  clear positive the first time.

  • I didn't.  I wasn't a mega tester while TTC, though.  I think if you are used to POAS 10 times a month doing it once and being done may hard.

  • I don't know if you are suppose to or not, but I have taken 7 more pregnancy tests only for the reason that I am in denial about it. It has taken me and my husband so long, I couldn't believe that it actually happened lol. If I had more pregnancy tests here at home, I would probably use them too....My name is Amanda, and I am a pee-on-a-stick-aholic. rofl

  • I took 2 back to back that were both positive and then today before my appt. I was totally worried that it would be negative.. But it wasn't guess I was just being paranoid.
  • No. I took the two FRERs and two digis that came in the packages and called it a day. I think that if you are testing with dye tests there is way too much room for freaking out unnecessarily over the darkness of the lines.

  • No, I didn't test again after my original BFP.  I don't see what the point is in continuing to POAS..

  • Hi, my name is Heather and I am a POAS addict.  I have a ton of wondfo just sitting there in the bathroom drawer and I can't resist.  I'm also pretty paranoid for another loss and felt the need to make sure the line would get darker as days went by.  Now I am addicted to making sure the line stays dark.  My first appointment can't get here soon enough!

  • Ok, this is all making me feel better.  After a negative test (because I was impatient and tested too early), I only got a really faint line on the next test.  I retested the next day to be sure, and the line was darker.  I have 2 more tests, and I really want to pee on them, just to be sure!

I love you for saying this. After 2 FRER and 2 digi positives on Sunday, I decided to PIAC and test with Wondfo ICs this morning. I completely freaked out and over analyzed the line (which was faint.)  I'm not doing that again.

  • OMG, yes.  I got a faint line on 8/11 and have tested every day (at least once a day) since then.  I think I am going to give up the habit, but will probably do one last test tomorrow.  :)  I am so worried its going to "go away".

  • I took a digital test from the get go...it was the only one I had. It showed 'pregnant' within seconds but my husband didn't believe it! We went and bought another 2 pack of digital tests. The second was of course positive, then I put the remaining test away. Well, probably around 10 or 11 weeks I was feeling paranoid about a missed miscarriage and took another (although, with a missed miscarriage it probably would have been positive anyway!). I figured I may as well use that last test because the expiration date was well before I plan on trying for another baby!

  • I had 4 tests and had gotten 2 negatives before my positive. I had one test left and took it the same day just to confirm I didn't have some faulty test for my first positive. After that I contemplated getting a digi, but decided it was a waste of money, and I just waited for my appt 2 weeks later.

  • I didn't continue to POAS too much because after reading a lot about m/c (I was paranoid) I realized you can still get a positive result even if you m/c or have a missed m/c. Not to be a downer, but I think it's important to know since it can be false hope sometimes. The tests can be expensive for sure so I say save your money :)
