placenta calcification?

Today at our growth ultrasound our OB stated that the placenta looked a bit ragged/calcified.  She said it didn't mean a whole lot since i'm almost 38 weeks.  Have any of you heard this before of a placenta being broken down?  She didn't seems concerned, but now i'm worried that i should be paying closer attention to baby to make sure he's doing ok.  Anyone been told something similar?

    I was told that I have a Grade 3 placenta at 35 weeks. I was also told that I would just be watched closely with NSTs and BPPs.

    yep, I have heard of it. I know I am at risk since I have type 1 diabetes so they started NST and BPPs at 30 weeks and do them weekly to make sure all is well. Maybe it is something that happens normally around 38 weeks? no clue. I would ask your doc.
