We had the boy name Landon picked out (NT scan tech thinks it's a boy so while we know it isn't 100% yet, we are focusing on boy names). The issue is that I found out yesterday H's 2nd cousin named his son (6 years old I think?) Landon. The main issue I have - that 6 year old and us have the same last name. So there would be 2 Landon SAMELASTNAME in our community.
We do not see this family and I've never met the child - we don't have get togethers or anything, someone that is a mutual friend mentioned to my mom and I did some Facebook research and had to search H's cousins profile and found his son's name is in fact Landon.
The issue is that H and I were set on it! Landon fits our "criteria" of no immediate nickname available and flowed well with the middle name we chose. Now I'm wondering if I should stick with the name or not?
Would you use the name still? If not, what names are similar to Landon that you could recommend?
Re: Names similar to Landon
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Since you never see each other and the cousins aren't close, I don't see a problem with using Landon if you really love it.
The only similar names I could come up with are London, Brandon, and Brenden, Holden - I'm off my game today.
Edit - The no B names part wasn't there when I responded. I'm coming up empty for more.
If you don't know him, I don't see a big deal with it. I personally wouldn't. How about Cameron?
That's the thing - we've never been to a family function for this side. Landon's dad is my FIL's cousin - so Landon's dad is my husbands 3rd cousin? It's confusing but Landon's grandpa and my FIL are cousins so Landon's dad and my H are 2nd cousins, so this kid and my kid would be 3rd cousins or is that where the "removed" part comes into play? Anyway, we've never been invited to an event with them and vice versa. FIL didn't want any of his side of the family to even be invited to our wedding so we don't have anything to do with them but we do recognize him when we see him somewhere, which is rare.
Logan?
I totally understand how you feel though- several (not just one) of the names that DH and I actually agree we really like have been used by family, and there's so many boys in both our families (especially his) I feel like all the names we love have been used. And he is close with his cousins, so our son will probably be close with his cousin's sons, so we can't use the same name and have them with the same first and last names. Boys names are too hard for us. I feel like with our "short" list, we are both just settling. It's not a good feeling.
I'd use it!
As for it not having a nickname... someone will call him Lando (as in Calrissian).
I had to google that to see what it even was - we aren't into Star Wars so I don't see that being an issue. The only person in my family that might know who that is would be my BIL and they hate nicknames so I doubt he would even think of it.
I would still use it. If they were a little closer in age, I might consider ditching the name. But it's pretty likely that these kids will never cross paths.
This and if you do change your mind what about Owen.
We were dead set on Landon until everyone's sister/cousin/neighbour was turning up with "new baby boy - Landon!"
Argh. We really wanted to avoid super popular names. As in, I don't want him to be Landon H. in school.
So our new short list is:
Weston
Declan
Lachlan
Nolan
Rylan
