Running with infant- ? safe

Anyone know of any formal recommendations on this?

My son is 7 wks old.  I have a BabyJogger with an infant car seat attachment.  I've been walking regularly but am feeling like I'd like to start running again.  He seems pretty secure in the carseat and actually likes the bumps (we live on a dirt road).  Anyone know if it's okay to start running?

I keep forgetting to ask the pedi this. My feeling is how is it any different than being in the car? But  I haven't tried it yet.

The manuals all say 6 months though.

Pedi says no, until they're strong enough to bear the weight of their big bobbly heads. Same as bike riding.

I'm planning to ask them as well- was just hoping to find the info prior to the next apt if possible.

Do you have a manual that specifically refers to running with the car seat attachment? (or is it just a stroller manual which would assume no car seat?)

Was your pedi talking specifically about a car seat attachment? This doesn't make a lot of sense to me since the whole idea of the car seat is that they don't have to hold up their heads (I'm not trying to disagree, just trying to understand what the issues are).  Biking I know is not recommended for a year (but the issues there are different- I'm not aware of any bike trailers that accept car seats though there may be one- I suspect there's also a much greater risk of an accident as well).

Thats what I'm thinking too. My manual for Baby trend says 6 months even though it accepts the carseat

We made sure DD had head control and that we ran on non bumpy terrain as much as possible. She's still in the carseat attachment now, but has complete head control! so it's no problem for us

I have a Bob with a Peg Perego and it says not to run with the car seat attached. And then the stroller not until 6 months. With that being said the store I bought both from have said that I can run right away with the car seat provided it's a smooth surface. Not sure if I will run that way but I will definitely be walking as soon as possible and if to me he seems pretty secure than I will give it a try. 

You can also use receiving blankets to securely hold the head if you are concerned. It's what women use in a car seat to put them in a car.

Thanks everyone- I'm starting to think there's no official answer out there.

 I did pull up the manual- it's clearly 6 months for putting him in the stroller itself (and in my case that will be January so I'll probably wait longer); but it doesn't make any statement about the infant seat.  There doesn't seem to be a manual for the car seat attachment.  There is a FAQ section on the baby jogger website that lists the info below- they don't specifically say it's okay, but they don't say not to do it.  I think I'll wait another week until I see the ped. and then possibly try it on smoother surfaces (unfortunately that means I'll have to drive somewhere to run).  (I'm not worried about the fit in the carseat- he's nearing 15 lbs and we've already removed the infant insert.)

The City Mini, City Classic and City Elite strollers have an increased recline angle to a near flat position to accommodate newborns. The Summit also has this feature, however, it is for cruising purposes only. Never run or jog with your seat fully reclined. Also, please keep in mind that babies should have ample neck support when placed in the seat of a stroller - you can use a rolled up cloth diaper or any number of neck supports sold at baby stores.

All single strollers have a car seat adaptor or bassinet/pram available to accommodate a newborn. Only our City Series and Summit double strollers have a car seat adaptor. It is important to remember though, that newborns are more vulnerable to outside conditions and should be appropriately protected from the heat, cold and wind. (Please note our Car Seat Adaptors have a maximum weight capacity of 45 lbs - that's the combined weight of the car seat and the newborn.)A.

I was under the impression that when a car seat is added to a jogger it makes it more top heavy and the danger of tipping increases which is 1 reason why people suggest smooth surfaces only if you are going to jog with it.

I started running with DD at 5.5 weeks and would have done it sooner but I was too sore. As long as your LO is secure in the car seat, I think you are fine! My DD never had problems and we run on some bumpy sidewalks...I just take it easy and look ahead to prevent the wheels from hitting any big bumps :-)

My DS is 7 weeks old and I started jogging with him in the BOB in his infant car seat carrier last week.  He is strapped into his seat, and the seat is completely secured into the stroller and I also use the safety strap on my wrist.  Being only 7 weeks postpartum I'm not going that fast and he likes it so I see no problem with it.

Just wanted to post an update- I took my son to his 2 month visit yesterday- the pediatrician thought it would be fine to run with him in the car seat (even on a bumpy road).  I haven't done it yet (I'm still working on running without the stroller to push) but will likely give it a try in the next month or 2).

Pedi said 6 months minimum.  I run without her right now.
