Wow....because they have so much wisdom to bring to children.
It could be a good deterrent for kids growing up in a home without a dad, where they are expected to fail in life. They'd get to see how much life behind bars sucks, and aspire to do better. Or get a preview of their next home.
I kind of actually see the benefit in this type of program. Depending on the type of crime, of course. I would never allow my children to participate obviously, but I've witnessed first hand what it's like for these kids to visit their parent behind bars and it's terribly sad.
My IL's used to pester me to allow DS to visit his father. The prison he's in has a children's library with storytime. They actually thought this would convince me to visit...
