Preemies

Another hernia post...

We found out today that our little girl has a hernia.  They told me at this point they would keep an eye on it, but surgery is possible down the road.  Any moms out there had this happen to their little girl?  The doctor told me that boys usually get them (figures, it's been one thing after the other for DD Sad ).

Re: Another hernia post...

  • I've got a boy, but he had one. They waited until closer to discharge to do the surgery. He was about 39 weeks GA. They were able to do a spinal anesthetic so he did have to be put back on the vent. He recovered quickly. The hardest part was that he had to be NPO after midnight and was pissed he couldn't eat. I also had an inguinal hernia as a child. It's not as common in girls, but it happens. I know it's stressful and you will worry, but just try to take it one day at a time. Hang in there!

  • Yup... Addison had 2 that she had repaired during her g-tube and Nissin surgery. The hernia repair was no big deal at the point...from a surgical stand point.

  • Sophie has an umbilical hernia.  It did not become noticeable until after discharge from the NICU.  I think we really began noticing as the fat started increasing.  The pediatrician told us that umbilical hernias were pretty common, especially among preemies and that they usually will heal on their own.
